"So do any of those cars run, or do they just look pretty?"

My wife sent me out to get some dinner for us last night. So, as I'm waiting in the drive thru, I see a bunch of cars sitting in a the grocery store parking lot next door booming bass and a few with underbody lights and such. A few Mazdas, some Hondas and I think a Toyota all with rims, spoilers etc. So, I get my food and pull away from the drive thru and these kids damn near break their necks to turn and look after hearing my exhaust (of course, I gave it a bit more throttle than needed hehehe).

As I pull out of the parking lot, I light the tires up a bit. I look over and a bunch of the kids are waving me to come over there. So I pull into the next entrance and stop next to them. One dude says, "That sounds mean, what is that?" I said, "It's a Saturn ION." Then I heard a kid in the back say "Saturn??" in a sort of snyde way.

Of course my next comment was, "So do any of those cars run, or do they just look pretty?"

A few replied saying that their engines where stock and I heard a few comments about exhausts and intakes. So I ask, "Well anyone wanna line em up?" As soon as I said that this guy replied, "Hell no. I heard a supercharger on yours." I just smiled.

After that, nobody would run me so I just told them, "Later man. Have fun." and drove off in a very spirited manner.

I had a friend of a friend come over last night for a few min, I've met this kid a few times before, drives a Neon RT. Anyway, we saw him pull up, get out, and stare at my car for like 5 min. Comes in, and right away wants to know who's Ion is that? He knew quite a bit about them, asked me about it and the SRT-4, then he tells me that he would have got the SRT-4 but couldn't afford to spend more than the $18,000 that he dropped on his current car. You should have seen the look on his face when I told him it was just over $18,000 for my Redline. He was real interested in everything about the car at that point. He had been hearing alot of rumors running around his sport compact buddies, but had only seen the QuadCoupe so far. I've still only seen one other Redline around here on the street or in a lot, quite a few of the coupes, but not the Redlines.

It's the same here where I am. Except the immature military kids, usually the lower ranking ones, trying to do burn outs in the parking lots and all that. I am trying to form some kind of car club up here for just about any type of car. Not sure exactly what i have to do, but i want to get these kids away from the parking lots and stuff. Maybe give them some form of street racing around here, but mostly on back roads that lead to the middle of nowhere.

Funny stuff - I'm always reading Sport Compact Car and Super Street, although Super Street sucks lately with more references to John Naderi's man boobs and much more sexually oriented 7th grade locker room crap....I won't renew my subscription.

My sons always look at the "reader's rides" sections and there are always a few vehicles that are well done, and not just a base Neon with plywood for a rear deck spoiler - many look pretty good, and of course, all the props go out to the homies, and a virtual laundry list of stereo equipment, inside decorations, floormats, shifter knobs, window tint, etc is always listed - SOMETIMES, there's the mention of an off-brand intake or something, but never much.

I always ask my sons....ok, they added 300 lbs worth of stereo, and it LOOKS ok, but what did they do for engine mods - do you realize that the car is now SLOWER than a stocker, since it weighs 400 lbs more (stereo, plus chrome wheels)....SLOWER than one just like it, only owned by a little old lady - that's freakin' pathetic!

And these guys are talking trash about how fast and tough their cars are!! Can't be!! Impossible!!

I tell everyone it just looks pretty. I have neons and the whole nine. When kids ask me if they dont see the fender that has the supercharged logos they will soon see the one on the trunk if ya know what I mean.
