Regular vs. "Advanced Audio System"...

I am picking up the new RedLine Monday. Should have been tomorrow morning, but paperwork was delayed. But, i went and looked at the car today. Will take some time to get used to the black, over my blue '04, but a couple things make up for it.

The new one has the comp pack, so that right there is a plus already. Fairly loaded car, as was mine.

But, the new car does not have the "advanced" audio system. I noticed that the two small speakers are gone from the doors. It does have the six disc mp3 as mine does, just missing the extra speakers and the amp under the rear deck.

Is there a big difference betwen the two? Enough that I will notice? I do listen a lot, have over 800 songs in mp3 in the changer.

Thanks, Kirt

I haven't heard the AAS, but I'm absolutely certain you can do much better for the same money with aftermarket amps & speakers (provided you're willling to do some work). Even though some factory premium systems can have good frequency response, I've never heard one that sounded good anywhere near concert volume.

Yeah, I'm sure that it isn't the best and that an aftermarket system would be much better, but have never been into the whole car audio scene, and was pleasantly happy with the AAS. I don't really play super loud, just like to have cleare sound that is loud enough to enjoy.

I really can't complain, as I am getting the comp pack and side curtain airbags, where my '04 does not have those. Sort of trading off...

I think there is a difference. I have the AD and like it, but added another amp for the sub that I added. If someone isn't that familiar w/ doing their own car audio I might suggest going stock and adding a total setup from ground up

I've not heard one without it, but I love the sound from mine. Yes, you can get better aftermarket though. If I could add my subs easily, I'd be pretty happy with the AAS sound for mids and highs.

You can spend a couple hundred and get better, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Yeah, no worries, and if it bothers me, I'll go ahead and add some to it. Strange, as the car has about everything you can get for the Redline, except that. You wold think if they were putting in the 6disc with mp3 that the Advanced would have come also. No big deal though. Just hoping this car runs as it should.

Thinking of having a priest visit it sunday and perform a blessing...

Thanks again all, Kirt

I'm not sure about the 06s, but the standard 04/05 audio systems run 4 ohm speakers (unlike the old 8 and 10 ohm GM systems). If you ever want to upgrade, you can run most aftermarket speakers directly from the factory HU without worry of blowing the outputs. But I'd stick with something efficient like Infinity so the volume doesn't drop too much.

Talking

my old 04 had the regular audio system with the 6 disk mp3 player. my new 06 has the advanced audio and its nice, but is really nothing special. I just got it because audio is one of the last things i would look to mod. The advanced audio package is good, but not much better than the regular package. I dont think youll be missing it....esp. with the comp package...youll be to excited about the LSD and the boost/shift lights ne way

The stock audio system is terrible. Even if you're not big on systems, I'd recommend picking up a decent head unit. The sound quality is night/day, even retaining the stock speakers.

And let me save you some trouble: The wiring harness is a Metra 70-2102. DO NOT let anyone sell you a 70-2002. Apparently, a Scosche GM10B will work as well, but I haven't tested.
