I have had the mod bug since I could first drive. I can't leave well enough alone, it's in my blood.

I have been working on my car since I first got it.When I bought this I was looking for a car that I could tinker with and still be a daily driver. I had to sell my Typhoon because I needed a daily driver I could haul my son around in and not make him deaf. 500hp big shaft turbo V6's that barely idle, run on 110 octane and need to be tuned on a weekly basis don't make good daily drivers. So to me, the car is pretty slow when I look at what I drove last but I am still happy with the base performance for a factory stock car. 300hp is the number I am shooting for for this car.

Tom01SC2, I agree 100%. Modifying a vehicle is art..

I love my RL and am not very mechanically inclined AT ALL so will probably keep the engine stock. Maybe get a better air filter but nothing major. I love the speed and acceleration it has and want to keep the warrenty as long as possible!

Lets be honest, 99% of the RLs out there are bone stock and will stay that way. Thats cool. My RL is a project car. It is a daily driver for now and will stay that way for a couple of months until I buy anouther car (92 Civic si HB). People can do what ever they want with there cars. Daily drivers should stay stock or at least close to is. For me that just wont cut it. I wont to be the first RL in the low 13's. Its all about your reasons for buying the car.

Well, im only 18, and to own this type of car, i feel very very lucky. My last car, i did my suspension, performance, exhaust, interior....but nothing is as good as stock, lets face it...IT WAS MADE FOR THE CAR. I still have the modding bug, but im not taking this far at all. Im going to get some rims, and a couple performance parts and thats it. this car is awesome as it stands.

Thumbs down

Still don't know what to do, only time will tell. I just enjoy this car, however, it is not fast by any means. It is pretty peppy and fun. I'm just going to give in and buy an R1, settle all my speed needs.

It's fine if someone wants to mod their cars, it's fine if you want it stock. Different strokes for different folks ya know.

I agree with you Tom, the car is not FAST. It's quick and fun to drive, but not fast. In my opinion you have to break the 12 second barrier to be FAST. in the 13's your pretty fast.

I'm fine with my ION RL the way it is now, i want it to be faster in the future. My wallet does not permit any mods at the moment. i went from a 200hp 1st gen DSM AWD,then to a 450hp 1st gen DSM AWD, then to a underpowered-yet-fun-to-drive s13 240sx (about 160hp) and now to my ION RL. The 205 horses isnt WOW to me, but it's definitely not boring. Dont get me wrong the RL holds its own with many cars.

I once heard a quote I think everyone that mod's can agree with..

" Racing is a disease, the only cure is poverty "

I totally agree with this statement, i've been modding every single one of my rides since I got my first car. It's something I love and I dont think I can stop, UNLESS i'm poor and dont have money to eat. IE poverty!

JDR...
For the most part I agree... I got the 5 (or was it 6) year bumper-to-bumper warranty... which I DO NOT want to void as this is my daily driver, however, there are a few things I'd like to do:
LSD (either Saturn-installed or Quaife unit)
replace stock air filter with K&N filter (not CAI) - done
torque brace
fog lights
K-40 radar detector/laser jammer syatem

Note: if the comp package parts ever do become available, I may just go with the whole comp package, installed as replacement parts (incl LSD, fog lamps, light tach, whatever else is included)
