Unhappy New price for the 07 IRL.

I'm not sure how this is going to help Saturn but they have increased the price on the 07 IRL, with the elimination of the Recaro seats that's not going to help either. The increase is $225, not much but as I said that's with the elimination the Recaro seats, I assume the new M.S.R.P quoted me also includes the destination charge...if not that's another nail in the coffin for the IRL.

Here's the reply to an e-mail I sent Saturn.

Hello Al,

We appreciate the time you have taken to write to Saturn.

Thank you for your interest in the 2007 Ion Red Line.

The base M.S.R.P. price for the Ecotec 2.0L supercharged,
intercooled/5-speed heavy-duty manual Ion is $20,215. The
Red Line Competition: Limited-slip differential, boost gauge, illuminated
ladder tachometer and 17-inch custom grey-painted forged wheels with
polished rims package is $1,375.

If you have any additional questions or comments, please feel free to e-mail
us again or call us at 1-800-553-6000, prompt 3.

Sincerely,

Marjie S.

Booo saturn.

On another note, Freak, since you are the forum expert on saturn pricing and resale value (at least I consider you this since you have done more research than the entire forum combined and STILL have no redline), will this increase my resale value? Wait, I forgot, I don't care. I have my redline already and have no intentions of selling it. How's yours doin'?

Just bustin' your balls, haha.

the fact they said BASE MSRP to me implies no destination charge.

CONGRATULATIONS GM.
YOU JUST SHOT YOURSELF IN THE FUCKIN FOOT. I swear those dumbasses need to hire me as their financial consultant...
The only possible hope, and that'd be nice, is to have incentives for the new ones, lots. time will tell with that..
let's see here... to get a comparably equipped RL to a new SI. The RL will end up costing about TWO-THREE GRAND MORE.
My estimated sales from when they start producing to when they stop? 250-500, TOPS. Way to go GM give yourself a pat on the mother fuckin back...

hey brian i don't have a RL but also means I didn't wreck any RLs either

Damn, that would mean the price increase will be closer to $800, they didn't say but I'm guessing it did include destination...I'll e-mail them again.

This will only make G.M/Saturn look even worse then they do today, best place for those running the show to hide would here.

at the VERY least GM should have just suicided the RL into it and taken a loss on every car they sold.... at least that would get some people intersted in the other ions... or at least into the regular Saturn cars.... dammit GM..

Yeah, what ever happened to "we are going to drop the price on ALL GM vehicles by $1000-2500"? Man they are so irritating. All the R&D, design, production, HECK, NO automanufacturer is as CAPABLE as GM. BUT if they are going to make the wrong decisions EVERY time, they will never get back in the game. Seriously, all performance aside, do they honestly believe an un-educated consumer is going to by a Cobalt SS/SC or Ion Redline for the SAME price as a Civic SI? Whatever happened to the import tax gap helping the consumer when buying domestic vehicles? Why is it that the cheapest cars that do pay import duties are CHEAPER than the domestics? This is getting worse, INSTEAD of better? Someone explain it to me.

I'll buy a IRL if the price is right otherwise I'll get the 07 Cobalt SS/SC, the Civic SI is a nice car but I'll take a SS/SC over it. JMO

So, it's $200 more than '06, which was $2,000 less than 04 and 05.... I don't see the problem here... My car was stickered at $23,995 in Jan of '05... So that's still less than the old non-comp package ones. 21k for a comp package? I'd take it.

The problem is that this car shouldn't need INCENTIVES to sell it. Or dealers that are BEGGING you to take it off there hands. No respect in either of those things. Price it right in the first place, competitively, it'll sell if you support it. GM won't support it properly. GRRRRRrrrrrr.
