Ion Red Lines: '04s w/problems vs. '05s w/problems
I know there a lot of problematic '04s out there, even some true "Lemons". I'm lucky that mine has had none of the nightmare issues that the others have seen. How about the '05s? I know Sp00ner has has good luck so far, what about the others?
I really want/need an LSD in a Red Line and am looking toward trading mine in for one with LSD or selling mine outright and buying a newer IRL with the LSD already installed. I don't, however want to trade a problem free non-LSD car for a headache prone LSD equipped POS.
The sensible side says just pay to have LSD put in (I got 6500 off sticker on mine, so the final price for vehicle wouldn't be that bad.) and keep a good running car. The other side says to get a different car with lower milage, different color, LSD and foglights, boost gauge/ladder tach and etc. and chance that it is a POS service bay queen.
I was thinking on trading in this fall for a SKY Red Line, but the wife said no trading on a SKY. She'd rather buy one outright and have 2 Red Lines in the garage. Another argument I lost to her, damn!
Seriously though, from what i've hear there's not many/if any people willing to pop open the trans. to try and get that LSD in(quaiffe alone goes around $1000 plus a lot of labor costs), seems like it'd be a biatch. There was a thread within the last week or so that some place now had a full LSD equipped trans. for sale goin for around $2000. Not a bad deal and if you got that much of a deal with the one you got now, that'd be the way to go.
05's the large majority appear to be GM exec cars.
you think they'd let them be lemons? I DOUBT that
"hey look the VP of HR has a RL that's been in service 10 times in the last 2 months, who are we firing?"
that's my logic at least.
and 06's, it's been 2 years, most quirks have been worked out by that point. that's also why i'm keeping my eye out for LSD ones myself, simply for that reason.
personally I don't think a single person that has posted about any reoccurring problems witht heir RL have a competition one... for reasons, imo, listed above ^.

First, that's the kind of arguement I'd like to lose with my wife. (Love to have a Sky RL)
My '05 has had the usual minor issues. The shift knob coming loose. Some plastic trim pieces that I had to have attached again properly. Ocassional little bit of jerking in first or second gear shift.
But those are minor, no problems otherwise. Only CEL was from a loose gas cap.

The comp ones are almost '06+ models really, I know there's some '05s, but they might as well be '06s with the time they took to come out.

Amazing luck so far. I can't even break things when I try. There's a little 'noise' coming from what I think is my right front wheel area. Not a BAD sound, but a sound. Makes a click when I load and unload it real hard. For the abuse that my front suspension takes, I'm impressed. I've NEVER run a car as hard as this one runs.

If the $1900 complete LSD equipped F35 is still for sale, and as far as I know it's not a sale or anything, that would be the way to go. Sell the stock tranny for a few bucks to someone that wants/needs it, and there ya go. That's my plan.

true but i think i've seen a few 06's posted here that have had problems, but they all seem to be non comp packages as well. not an overwhelming amount granted, but still a few
