These cars are very safe to shift at redline, when driving like ya stole it. Car (or, the insane HAL of an ECU we have) doesn't like it if you slam off the limiter, but it won't hurt the engine. The staged upgrades from GM let us take it to 7k. These are sturdy, well-enginered motors.

Heck, we build power right to redline. With the smaller pulley I've done (3.1) and boost bypass, as well as the K&N CAI, I still am amazed by how smooth and quick I can climb to 6500. When stock (or w/o pulley and boost bypass) I could feel it lag above 6k. No more.

Best way to launch is to slip the clutch in 1st to avoid wheel hop, spin. You'll figure it out. Go WOT in 2nd and nail it into 3rd.

If you're trying to save gas, I'd say rev to 3k. Don't bog the engine; a tad bit of boost is what these cars like.

Goose it in first. Get ready to shift very quickly. If you have the steering pod, it helps. 1st from a standing start.. go to 6000 and go to second...then repeat.

i actually have a question on this as well. not to thread jack or nothing.

but i have the same question except backwards. when at higher speeds (while racing) what is the max safe speed to downshift into 4th, 3rd and 2nd? alot of my races occour at 60-70 mph and i'm always afraid to shift it into 3rd.

That is a great time to do a 3rd drop, don't be scared. To the original poster......you want to shift as close to the rev limiter as possible for max power. The hard part is trying to do it without banging into it. Don't worry, this engine can handle much more than the stock configuration limits it to. The factory tune is ultra conservative to say the least.

I shift when the tach reads 6500, so I'm probably shifting at 6850 or so.
