RL oil change is something I don't miss about the car. Everytime I did the oil it was like self mutalation. I did mine every 2,000 miles too. I had about 26000 miles on mine, 13 oil changes...

that shit seriously sucked ass.

Mine is at 4400 and onstar is telling me 7300 for my oil change...Ya I was at Walmart to get some oil and a filter for my vue and went ahead and bought a filter for my ion rl and noticed it felt real light so i opened the package and looked to make sure the filter was in there and there it was just a filter no case...Strange to see since I have never owned a car that has a filter of this kind...one day I will go to the how tos to see how to change it

AC Delco filter from Saturn dealer (PF456G or PF457G).....$6

Mobil 1 5W-30 from Wal-Mart.....$23 for 5 quart jug & then a couple of extra quarts, $6 each (takes 6-7 quarts)

And then you'll need a 32mm (or 1 1/4") socket for the filter cap....you can get that at Meijer's for $8

So you can do it yourself for about $40 (after you buy the socket)
