And while your emergancy flashers are on, and glove box open. The AC must be off, but the defrost must be on.

lol, why would it matter if the car was running? I'm not saying your wrong, just that I don't understand!

I plan on taking some parts off and pressure washing them (SC and cam cover) and then polishing them whine I have time

there is a diy carwash on my way home from work, and on the sprayer there is a setting marked "engine/compartment" ... thats what made me think it might be ok, but i know i have heard otherwise before. it needs a cleaning either way, but if i can save myelf some time and effort by just pressure washing it, im all about it.

one of my supervisors at work has 3 corvettes, and he says he presure washes all the engines before a show, and then just lets em sitt for a little bit before fireing em up.

dont do it to the engine bay.

spray all purpose cleaner on everything.

let it sit a second then spray wheel acid carefully on the metel parts of the s\c. hose it all off and dont spray directly on the airbox, or computer if you have amishs kit.

use an air gun to get it dry. then spray this detaler stuff in it, you just spray the shit out of it and close your hood and forget about it, it shines everything!

my engine bay looks amaizing.

I'm a professional mobile detailer and this is how I do it. I'm not saying that I'm the authority on the matter, but I may have some good techniques.

I first put a plastic bag over my intake filter(don't forget to take it off) then I lightly spray it with a hose. Just enough to get it wet.

If the engine bay is really greasy and there is a lot of build up I use a mild and diluted general purpose degreaser. Spray degreaser on liberally and let soak for about a minute.

Next, I use an old wool wash mit soaked in carwash soap and scrub everything.

Then I just rinse it off. Make sure to rinse it really well or you will get some nasty degreaser spots.

As a final step I dry everything by hand with terry towels.

I wax all the black paint and my intake, and I shine all of the black plastic for shows, but not every time I wash my car. (I wash my car 2-3 times per week)

You can power wash your engine compartment if you so desire, the reason people say you can't is that bad things can happen. You could potentially split a hose, get water in a connector, ruin seals, etc. All of these things can happen, but are not likly as long as you are careful.
The reason some people think you need to leave the car running goes back to the days of distributors and caps and rotors. It would be very easy to get water inside of a distributer with a pressure washer.
