Tread life on Dunlops?

I went to my Saturn Retailer for an oil change and was informed that the Dunlops on my car are almost spent. I have around 18,000 miles and found it a bit premature. The service advisor informed me that 20,000 miles is what I should expect from the Dunlops. Does this sound about right to anyone else? Maybe I'm just used to atleast 30,000 miles out of my tires. I know the Saturn's tires are High performance but wasn't expecting such short tread life, that's why I figured there was a premium price on these tires....?!?!?!

have you been rotating them??? i do every other oil change, and they seem fine at 11000

lol, I won't say anything on here to incriminate myself but I can say that I do a lot of Jack-rabbit starts, but I hardly ever smoke the tires, I think I've done it twice since I've had the vehicle (one time on accident and the other time on purpose if memory serves me well).

That's the other thing, I have the service agreement with Saturn of Hurst, and looking at all the service tickets that I have not one time did they rotate the tires for me. I had to get the tires rotated at Discount Tire at around 15K miles. Looking at my Service coupons I should be getting a tire rotation every other oil change. I think Saturn of Hurst dropped the ball on this one. At anyrate I was just curious if 20,000 miles is about what we should expect out of these tires? I was told that the Dunlops are a softer compound since they're performance tires.

i'd check the tire warranty, they should be warranted for however long you should expect them to last. i got the pamphlet with my car

performance tires ussaly dont have a milage rating,
the stock cavalier ls sports ones rsa's they dont have a rating either.

You don't have to spin or smoke the tires to wear them out quickly. Any kind of hard driving will wear the tires much qucker. Hard turning, accel or braking.

true, but they should come with some sort of a warranty, which should indicate how long the manufacture will expect them to last if rotated regularly

The last 'performance' tires I bought for my Camaro had none either. They were Kuhmo Ecastas, I asked the guy at the desk because I didn't see a treadlife statement on the literature. He told me they don't put any kind of mileage estimates on tires that exceed certain speed/quality ratings. Said that you can burn them off the car in one or two weekends of amatuer racing.

I had Dunlop SP Sport A2's on my last Saturn, and after 10,000 miles they looked almost brand new. I don't think the tires are prone to wear quickly, these things are pretty damn hard. Lots of people complained that they weren't 'sticky' enough. In comparison, my Corvette hardly spins the rear tires, posi, thick rear tires, and I've worn the hell outta those tires, with just limited driving.

never knew that, although it seems pretty obvious. but 18,000 miles seems low for some stock tires, especially since they come with a warranty.
