Low Tire Pressure Indicator?

Do our cars have a low tire pressure indicator? I thought all new cars (I have an 06) were supposed to have this now. Yesterday I had a screw in my tire and was down to 8 psi. No indicator. My wifes Highlander has one and it worked when she had a screw in her tire a month ago.

No, we do not have tire pressure monitors. I had one of my friends ask me about the TPM's being a government regulation standard on all vehicles. As far as I know/heard, there is no such regulation. There is however a requirement to have the passenger presence system for passenger airbag deployment. If anyone knows of anything on the tire pressure monitors, please enlighten us!

Perhaps it's just new models that come out past '06?

My friends tundra has them, and the batteries go dead about every other month, low tire indicator has been on for about a year now. A false sence of security if you ask me, just like the low oil warning.

Very true, we have had quite a few Toyotas in with this problem. I would rather just use the valvestem caps that turn red when the pressure is low. My friend has 'em on his z06, and they seem to work well.

something like this would work....

I know there are some out there that tell you if there is like a 3psi drop.....some are pretty accurate.

I was refering to the computer monitoring the ABS system to detect a difference in wheel rpm to indicate a low pressure in one tire. I thought I had read something saying the car companies had to add this. I must be mistaken.

Never seen it like that before... all the ones I've seen have a sensor in the rim itself...
