winter tires

i know it's been discussed a million times but i need a little help. I got 16x7 garbage rims for 250 from craigs list and i'm looking for winter tires to put on them.

now, from what i've read on here for sizes you can run 205-225/55/r16, but my question is if you were buying new for a 16x7 rim which would you get? and if you lived in ohio where it does snow, but not all the time, would you get all seasons to put on the 16's or actual winters?

I live in Michigan and I bought snow tires but now I kind of wish I had just went with all seasons since we don't get a whole lot of snow either. Now I have to buy new summer tires next spring and I would have to if I bought the all seasons.

that was my thoughts as well... i see myself putting winter wheels on end of october early november and taking them off aearly april and with that kind of a time frame it'll be nice to have a set of wheels that cost significantly less then the lops.

Now i'll just have to keep reminding my self doing 120 down ther freeway isn't something i should be doing on all seasons.

any suggestions on the sizes?

Depends on the all season tires. The Michelin X Plus I had on my old beater were all season rated, but virtually worthless in that greasy slop from ice-melter or anywhere near 32 degrees. I had to put real snows just to get up my driveway.
The beater went bye-bye, so now I'm facing the same decision. Fifteen inch snows for the old Riviera were only $45 at Sams Club (cheapest I can find). Sixteen inch are now $64 - getting closer to the price of a decent all season. I'd also like some cheap 16's for long trips to save wear on the Dunlops. I made the mistake of taking an 8000 mile trip around the country on BFG Comp TAs when they first came out. They were junk by the time I got back - an expensive mistake. Plus if one got trashed out in the middle of nowhere you'd get raped for a new Dunlop. A good all season tire could serve both purposes. On the other hand, putting lots of miles on all season tires reduces their effectiveness for winter. decisions, decisions.

I went full winter but we get pretty bad winter's...though MANY [ahem, most] people here run all-seasons and just drive slowly and hope they don't get stuck.

Really it depends on how bad your winter gets [amount of snow and ice, decent all-seasons won't be affected by the drop in temp's] on whether or not you go full winter or all-season's.

the winters aren't to bad here and the most snow really ever stays on the ground is a week so i'll probably go with all seasons. BTW my rims are from a guy who had a old jetta i think and he said they were 5x110 bolt pattern, i haven't checked it yet but about any rims i've seen for sale from people are from a VW. I thought about stepping down to 15's but then i realized our brakes wouldn't fit in the rim very well, so i picked up the 16's and i'll probably try to find one of those buy 3 get 1 free deals around to throw the tires on.

i'm thinking of going with 205/55/R16 unless anyone sees a reason to go wider, but from my experience narrow tires are better
