Swapping from '04 to '06 Recaro Seat Skins or Vice Versa

As many of you know, I swapped some 2004 Recaros into my 2007 back during the summer with minor complications but I got it all resolved.

I wasn't too thrilled with the blue inserts, but you take what you can get. Ideally I wanted the 2006 Recaros.

Anyways....IMkenNY got rid of his RL and I picked up his '06 seat skins that he bought from CatIon during the summer for a great price.

The front Recaros fit fine (and I'll have pics up soon), BUT with the rears.....the seats skins won't swap over.

So I'm 100% sure the skins won't swap from a '06 to a '04 or a '04 to a '06.....I'm assuming the '05 would be the same as '04, but someone would probably wanna confirm that.

The difference is that the '04 rear seat has curves stitched onto the seat skin & the foam & velcro contour that way as well.

The '06 has straight lines on it.

Bascially the seat foam & seat skins are different.

SOOOOO....if you're planning on swapping seats from someone with an '06 (to change color) you gotta swap out your whole rear seat assemblies as 2 pieces (upper & lower).

So I could put the '06 rear seat skins onto my stock '07 rear cushions, but I don't really wanna take all that apart & I'm just going to go Cobalt SS/SC style & have the front Gray/Black Recaro seats & my stock black leather rear seat and call it a day.

the 04s actually look better in my opinion.. i like the curved stitching versus the straight line..

and that grey skin in the last pick looks like the cover for one of the front seats not the rear

trust me...it's the back seat cover

The front seats have cream/white stitching anyways that is more noticeable

You're right that the curves give it more appeal, but it also looks just like the 2003/2004 black/blue cloth interior too except that it's leather

interesting, i swapped out from 04 to 06 seats and didn't notice how the curves and stitching were different like that. I did notice how across the top of the seat backing the leather on the 04's comes across the front and dips down kinda like a head rest, on the 06's it dosesn't but the leather runs all the way up on the sides of the seat. I do kinda like how the 04's are curved like that, but i just couldn't stand the blue anymore..

Yeah I realized that too after I posted the pics on here (how the fake "headrests" are different)

But yeah...you gotta swap the whole backseat....just can't change the skins like I thought originally


I wonder if Katzkin has different patterns to go with the '04-05 & then the '06 Redlines since that foam is different?? ('07 has regular seats so it wouldn't matter)

If you do end up getting these....you can have the rear skins too.

They'll swap onto the '07 cushions and everything without a problem, but I don't wanna go thru the work of taking them on/off (especially if I turn the car in & don't keep it).

So I'll just do like the G85 SS/SC's do & keep the stock leather seat in there....it'll still look good regardless & it matches. And since you got tinted windows anyways, no one sees the backseat...lol

its covered with a carseat on one side and a portable speaker box on the other

I would still love to have all leather front recaros, or at least the cushions all leather
