The block has a leak in it from being a bad casting. I'm in Wisconsin.

The issue is locate either directly under the center of the intake manifold area or directly under the exhaust manifold area, basically the very center of the block on one of the two sides. I can't remember which. I have to get the motor out of the garage for some pics and won't be able to do that till this weekend. There is nothing visable other than an oil stain where the leak occurs. It was pulled from an '03 Alero almost exactly three years ago.

If i had it welded would it be a good canadet for a full build, or do you think it has a big potential for disaster?

I honestly don't know man. It was a very minor leak and the engine always ran fine and never was ran significantly low, so, I don't see it being a huge problem, but, it might not be fixable, either.

whats the crank reluctor wheel look like?? I'm assuming its a 7x reluctor wheel, which means you'd need a new crank for it to be used in a redline
