Going with 17X8's

Are 245/40-17's going to rub badly? If it's not badly i have no problem buying them

In short... definately. I have 235/40/17's and they rub the front fender liner under compression. Why you want that wide anyways? It starts to take away some steering response from what I've seen.

I have run 245 40 17 Hoosiers with 9 inch wide CCW 3 piece wheels on the track; the only rub is if the car ride height is too low the top of the tire hits the fender, but no rub on the outer fender; maybe if the wheel offset is wrong the tires will hit. Its hard to find wheels that work, try the CCW web site...here is what one person says: "lots of serious racers use CCW wheels, so they must be good. They are three-piece wheels with forged centers and spun rims. The proprietor of CCW is John Purner, who really knows his wheels. "

Where exactly do the wide tires rub on and what can i do to eliminate it?

Could something be taken out?

I just like the idea of wide tires to enhance handling.

What offset are you running?

I had 17x8's running 235/45/17 and got 0 rub in the front, and a little rub in the back (the tire stuck out to the edge of the fender, and plastic wont 'roll')

My offset was 28mm. If you are lowered at all, you will most definately rub. the inside plastic liner on the front will rub if your suspension travels more than an inch.

So, check your offset, and run without fender liners if you have to.

245/40/17 Hoosiers on 7.5's with a 42mm offset equaled slight rub for me at test n tune. 3mm spacer might fix it, 5 definately would. These wheels mount plate is too thick, if I go 3mm spacers I won't get enough turns on teh studs. I'm probably going to make these my daily wheels and run 225/25/17's on 'em once my light wheels are done.

For the record, there was slight rub on the inside wheel shroud cover thing, and a "tiny" bit of rub on the strut mount. Rears were actually, worse, I got enough body roll to *somehow* rub on the inside of the cover/shroud thing like 2" up and behind the wheel, lol, plus they rub the e-brake cables. None of this BAD, but rubbed here & there under extreme grip (insane WWII era airstrip concrete) and radical higher-than-usual-for-SOLO II cornering speeds and loads. 38mm or 36mm offset wheels would fix it easily.

This is on a stock car, no drop - but with pretty exaggerated (-2.5 degrees) camber. Looks like a serious drop with the above mentioned offset *might* rub the inside lip of the fender, but 235/40's would fit EASILY and without issue, I'm pretty sure a non-Hoosier (famous for being wider than stated) 245/40 would fit fine, again with 38-36mm offset or 42/40 mm offset and spacers.
