Charger cooling

Hi everyone,

I am new to this website and I think I will love it . I live in Quebec, Canada so please don't be angry with me if my english is bad... I'll try to fix it for you.

I just get a RedLine and I have a question for you. Do I have to let the supercharger cool down, as we do with a turbocharger, before turning off the engine?

Thank you!

You can crank it right up and go. S/C are different from turbos in that aspect.

Not sure how acurate this info is. One of the more experienced techs at work told me it's a good idea to let the car idle for a few minutes before shutting down after pushing it real hard. Something about the oil draining from the charger too quickly after an immediate shutdown. By letting it idle a few minutes, the oil has more time to pull some heat out of it. Like I said, not sure if this is really the case, just figure 2 minutes of time is cheap insurance.

The oil dosen't drain from the blower, it's a seperate sealed system. Sounds like he's applying turbo knowledge to a blower.

That is what it sounds like he is talking about. Superchargers are a completely sealed system with their own oil. Where a turbo utilizes engine oil to lubricate the bearings. Also, a turbo is spinning at tens of thousands of rpm, and when you shut one down after running it hard, the turbo keeps going for a few minutes without oil supply. The SC on these cars stop immediately when you shut the car off since it is belt driven. So even if it was fed with oil from the engine, you don't have the problem of having to let it spool down first.
