Low idle shifting noise

This may have been discussed already but i hear a sound that kinda bothers me. Lets say i'm pulling from a light going slow (not trying to race) and shift from 1st to 2nd and so forth around like 2000+...i hear a little rattling it seems to me coming from the transmission/gear case or so.....and then i drove with my buddy the other day in his ford fuk-us and his did the same thing (his is a stick too). Any ideas would def help...

Some noise out of a manual trans is normal. Some of them make more noise depending on the type of syncros, blocking rings, or dogs in them. Some are made of brass, some are made out of carbon fiber, etc. Usually the higher performance of a trans, the more noise it will make due to the fact it is made from materials that are made to withstand abuse, and not be quiet. It kind of goes back to the concept of the old days with trannys with straight cut gears instead of helical cut. They were noisy as hell, but they would pull an 18 wheeler without failing. Now my tranny for instance in my redline, it is starting to get pretty loud when you are cruising at a constant speed in 1-4 gears, especially when you let out of the gas a little. But, it is going to the dealer this afternoon to have it and a list of things that I have been building up to be looked at.

We do have straight cut gears in the tranny. That's part of the nosie. Wop posted a TSB on the 'gear noise', it was mainly for piece of mind from what I could tell.

I know the straight cut gears make more of a whining sound, but the rattling sound generally comes from the actual shift mechanisms. I don't mind the whine, I think it makes it sound more like a race car, but I have been driving through neiborhood streets with mine, and the rattling noise is kind of embarrassing. That is all I hear is that sound echoing off of everything around.
