track last night - finally broke thru 15.0

went to the track last night and finally managed to break thru that damn 15.0 barrier that I've been stuck at for some time now.

I was so sick of getting 15.0, 15.1, 15.0, 15.2, 15.0, etc......
grrrrr

don't really know what I did differently, the 60' still sucked big time, 2.35!
but I managed a 14.92!
what a relief!
I was starting to think it was impossible to break into the 14's with this car.

I also know that I have hit 2.1 60' a couple of times in the past too, but I can't figure out what I did differently to accomplish that.
and of course, on those runs, I would blow 2nd or 3rd gear....

the car is all stock still.
it seems like a tremendous effort to squeak out an extra .1

i must be doing something fundamentally wrong still.
my impression is that this car, in stock form, should be able to do better with the right driver at the wheel.

it's so humbling going to the track.
this car feels quick on the streets, but when i go to the track, i feel so pokey.
all those little civics and beetles doing 13's
sheesh

oh yeah,
I also tried out this bracket race showdown event.
unfortunately i was knocked out first round, but it was close.
I dialled in 15.05 and ran 15.09
my competitor dialled in 14.75 and ran 14.79
can you believe that?
he beat me on the r/t - by a mile!
lol

I think the hardest part on these cars is mastering the 1-2 shift. That might be where your time came from. With the laggy tach if you shift too early your losing power. I ordered a shift light for my car and am very excited to get it back to the strip once it is installed.

yeah, i have a raptor shift light.

once i put that thing in my times stopped floating all over the 15-16 range, and are now consistently 15.0, 15.1

it's a nice addition for consistency.

C&D rates it at 14.6. Alot of it has to do with the driver, and where you live. Where I live it is about 1/2 second slower than if I drive to Sacramento as the elevation is so high. A friend of mine consistently runs 13.9s in his supercharged SI when ran in town. In Sac he consistently runs 13.4s.

I've been able to run a 14.5@97 bone stock. It's in the car, you just have to know how to get it out.

see
that's the thing
there's a little more to be had
it's just so hard to figure out how to get there

I would like to feel that I wrung out as much as i could in stock form, and then start adding some mods to get a little more out of it.

but if I add mods now, I'll always feel like I gave up and never quite figured out how to squeeze the most out of the beast, but rather, took an easier route to get more out of it sooner rather than later, and then from that point on even with the mods, I'll probably not get the most out of it ever.

Not neccesarily. The way I look at it is if I mod and drop my time by say 3/10s. Now I'm running 14.7, but I know I should be able to hit 14.4. Keep at it and over time the ET is 14.6, 14.5, etc. In the end you wind up running the same thing as if you didn't mod till you hit 14.6. Although it could be a good reward system for you. If you hit X time you can get X part, etc.

yeah but.......

some people at the track already tend to say:
"hey - nice run!"
"what mods you got in there? you must have intake and exhaust and blah blah blah...."

and then i say noooooo - it's all stock!

and they freak out!!

haha - it's just so funny!
and somehow very satisfying to say you achieved a certain time without the help of mods, cuz so many people at the track just automatically assume that everyone is modded up the ying-yang.

i guess i'm a bit twisted.
