FYI: Stock Wheel Weight /w Tire

I just weighed a brand new stock redline wheel & new stock tire combo. Total was 46.5 lbs on a doctors' style bar scale (ie. accurate). Just in case anyone was wondering.

Any idea how that breaks down? I mean, rim weight and tire weight seperately?

46 Lbs for all of them would be insanely light

My doctor's scale always reads 20 lbs. over my true weight

Seriously though, I'm afraid that's probably accurate. Someone here reported 43.5 on their bath scale and tirerack.com says the Dunlops weigh 26lb, which put them at 17.5 - not too bad. Others had estimated similar. But I recently picked up a spare rim on ebay and was disappointed - 20.5 on my scale. That would jive with tirerack.com and your measurement. I'm disappointed because the same scale showed 19 lb. each for a set of Alcoa 16", forged, 3/4 ton truck wheels (3500 lb rating). I don't have a suitable caliper to measure them, but the stock rims are really chunky in the spoke transition and outer bead area. They should have been left on the CNC a while longer to peel out another 3-5 pounds. I have to wonder why they even bothered going to a forged wheel. I just put a 15" Isuzu SUV alloy rim on ebay which weighed only 17.5 lbs . The only consolation is that a 20.5 lbs forged wheel should be strong as hell.

yea they are insanely strong... i should know i just blew both tires on my P/S last night going over a pot hole... blew the inner part of the tire right behind the lip of the rim on both of them.... now i get a 300 bill just to replace them... good news is that the rims look un-touched which is awsome cause those fuckers hit that pot hole pretty hard

Sp00ner, I don't know the break down, since I only have rims with tires mounted. I just happen to have 8 extra rim/tire combos, all virtually new, so I thought I'd grab one and weigh it.

So we're looking about roughly 20lbs for the rim? I was telling some guys at the races that I thought they were about 20lbs, and they told me I was nuts. No stock rims are that light, blah, blah, blah.
