Got my 06 RL Pacific Blue w/ Comp Package!!!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself, I've waited since early July for my car and I finally picked it up on Wednesday!!! I gotta say it's everything I hoped it would be. Fast, sporty, comfortable. I have a number of mods in the pipeline when I can gather up some cash, but already it's a SWEET ride!

Only mistake: I have NO IDEA how to drive a manual transmission! I've only had about 6 hours behind the wheel of this car, and after driving auto for 5 years, it's been hard to adjust. Any tips?

I attached a pic, and you can view more pics of my car here:

Nice ride! I got an '04 Blue RL (but not comp pack ) one like yours, gotta love that hot blue color. I was in the same position you were trying to learn manual, hell I even had my best friend come with me when I bought it so he could drive it home(he's the only one I trusted with my baby). But what I did is just drive it every second I could and go into empty parking lots and just spend all day until my arm and leg hurt learning how to drive. But now I've been told by some of my friends that if they wanted the best time out of thier car on the street they'd rather have me drive thier car. But I'm a dork, I just get up in the middle of the night and drive my car for the fun of it cuz I pretty much have an orgasm every time I race my car. So I guess if your retarded like me you'll learn pretty fast but just dont destroy it till you know how to drive it. Have Fun and enjoy your new RL and welcome to the coolest place online!

Congrats!

Tips for driving stick... hmm... don't burn the clutch. I feel it's easier on the clutch to stall once in a while, rather than over-rev the hell out of it, and 'slip' the clutch for too long. You only need a little gas to get moving in this thing, hell, I've gotten it moving with NO gas. Just rev enough not to stall, and then let the clutch out slow and steady. If you find yourself moving without letting the clutch all the way out, and the engine is revving much higher than it should be, you're slipping the clutch too much. It's a hard manual to drive smoothly, I still can't and I've been driving stick for years. Just remember, it's less expensive to fix your ego after stalling a few times, than it is to replace your clutch.

Any other tips guys/girls?

I taught someone how to drive a stick just by telling them how a clutch works. Thats the easiest way, to visualize what your actually doing and whats going on when you depress the clutch. If you don't know, do some research and learn how it works, it'll make all the things you do clear.

As a person in the same boat that you are, not driving a manual and having to adjust after 7 years of Auto. This was also my first manual car.

Dont get lazy.. sometimes I do in morning traffic, and my hand moves faster than my foot, causing not a very pretty noise, lol. It's quite embarissing actually, haha. 3rd is kinda picky about going in to gear if your sloppy, so watch that one. Other than that, you'll get the hang of it.

Nice car, I love the blue. Oh and you'll get a hand of the tranny in this car. Best of luck to you.

Thanks for all the tips everyone, and of course more are appreciated.

Do any Tri-state RL owners ever get together to meet up and swap stories and ideas and stuff? If so I'd definitely be interested.
