Overall reliability?

Hi, first post here. I checked out the ion redline at the New England Autoshow this past weekend and it impressed me more than the Cobalt SS. I currently have a 2003 Cavalier LS that has been a great car. I wondering how the Ion Redline's have faired...

Any likes or dislikes associated with the car that you can let me know off hand?

I am not new to Performance cars having owned a '99Trans Am and a '01 Z28 Vert and currently restoring a '66 Pontiac GTO.

Thanks all.

My Redline has been great! I have not had a single problem, I love it.

Ok, I got one that was manufactured in june or something of 04 (pretty early in the overall life of the redline), and I had three manufacturing defects: One was the camshaft sensor seal recall, the second was the shift know falling off many times, both of which have been discussed many times over here, and saturn has sence fixed the underlaying problem.

The third thing was a sensor wire was stripped/melted and was shorting out, causing my car to go into limp mode (with a P0068, i think) about once a day. After a month of that, and a few trips to the dealer later, they (actually a rookie tech) found it. This problem has never shown up on this board, makes me think that it was a fluke, and not a problem with the car.

I haven't had any issues since those three back to back. I was a little scared for a while (I have had saturns since 98) with all that stuff happening, but the car is so much fun, and there have been no problems since. I have put 5 months and 12k mikes on it since the last thing was fixed.

I race mine on road courses on the weekend, beat on it all week, and take care of it the way it supposed to be. The only problems I have is that I need new tires and brakes now... 15k miles and a couple of races later...

Like any car, it has some problems. But overall I have found it to be a reliable vehicle.

That's funny... Around here it's completely opposite. I RARELY have people revving me, and there are PLENTY of rice-a-holics around here. It's gotta be one of two things...

Either they think it wouldn't be worth it cause they think they would smash me... Or... They have done their homework and know the demon under the hood of the redline is no joke.

Of the few that I have raced, I have only suffered two losses. One to an EVO (Those things can FLY), and the other to my friends heavilly modded GTI 1.8T
