Putting some bigger tires on the car Monday

Putting some all-season tires on the car to get me through the winter. Only on the front; it's basically so that when we do get the snow that Michigan's been denying us, I won't be sliding off the road. They're 225-50-17 Conti's, they're about 1/2 inch wider & taller than stock. I'll let ya know how it turns out on Monday when I get it done.

Ya, another with winter's. Welcome to the club of tire spinnage in 3rd on dry pavement (stupid winter rubber...lol).

Oh, but I will tell you this, if you get a good amount of snow/ice, you'll be wishing you had rears though as you can feel the rear end wanting to slid out...at least in this guys Prelude SH it does...lol.

Well, the tire width for winter is VERY debatable and really really depends on the weather itself.

Lots of snow, narrow (not to to narrow) are good to cut through

Ice, packed snow, etc you want wider tires for traction.

No kidding. The weather and temperature this winter has been ridiculous. Last year was a pretty bad winter from being bone chilling cold and snow on the ground for most of it, at least from what I remember. This is the warmest winter that I can remember.

are you going to have to get your speedo recalibrated with a larger tire on the front wheels? Isn't that monitored by the ECU?

Won't the 2 different size tires give your ABS a problem? I also agree on the concern with different traction on slippery conditions can be a problem.

yea i'd watch out about making such a huge difference with tire size... not a good idea.. especially since your gunna rub pretty bad in the front now since the stock tires rubed a littler... now your wider and taller... your gunna rub a lot

The speedo won't be to far out, as width has no bearing on it and he is going from a stock 45 to a 50. I know there is some calculator online but it should only be about (this is a guess) 3-5% out, meaning at 50mph, you could be 55mph (OH NO!). It could be a little more, but I doubt it (I have 50-16 and it is so little out it doesn't make a difference).

Just for a fact, stock gauges can be +/- 5% wrong on any given car.

Now the width could rub, pclear knows how big you can go, just ask him.

Just did the calculation, your speedo will be 5% to slow meaning when your speedo says 60mph your going 63mph....WOW big difference
