Question Fuel Filter replacement?

I was doing some maintenance work on my RL since the miles are quickly approaching 30K. I was surprised to find out (through my local Saturn Service Advisor) that the Fuel Filter for the Red Line is designed to last for 50K miles. I found this a little odd. I remember many of my owners' manuals stating that this should be done somewhere around 30-35K miles. Is K&N making fuel filters now or something? I haven't heard of these things lasting THAT long....?!?!?!

It should really be done around 20 - 30k. It is not a matter of the filter lasting that long, it is a matter of how much contamination there is. I have pulled ones off with 30-40k on them, and they are full of dirt. I would go on and change it.

Opening that can again....

Just got off the phone with my old shop foreman at Saturn. Running top tier gas at 92 or higher octane and that fuel filter should go 100k as per Saturn. Running crap gas and change it sooner.

Worms crawling around now...

your fuel filter on your ion has the fuel pressure regulator within it and unlike a conventional filter it only filters fuel that is being used ..no filtered fuel is returned to the tank to be refiltered again like a return style system..so it is said to last longer..price is higher also, about 90.00

That is if that top tier gas station changes their filters on the pump like they are supposed to. That is also like them saying that platinum plugs last for 100k. After about 60k they really start to deteriorate then the secondary voltage goes up and starts to burn up coils, wires etc. It is the same with filters, the more trash that it accumulates, the more of a strain it puts on the pump, causing premature failure. 9 times out of 10 when I have a car come into the shop running bad due to a clogged fuel filter, the filter is changed,, and the pum will go out within a month.

THE FILTERS CAN BE PURCHASED FROM A CHEVY DEALERSHIP OUT OF TEXAS. THE COST IS $12.01 EACH, BUT YOU HAVE TO BUY A BOX OF SIX. THEY WILL SELL ONLY THE WHOLE BOX.

HOWEVER I FOUND A CHEVY DEALER IN ARLINGTON HEIGHTS , IL THAT JUST SHIPPED ME A SINGLE FILTER FOR $ 48.23 SHIPPING AND TAX INCLUDED. THE STOCK NUMBER IS 22734980. THE PHONE NUMBER TO THE DEALERSHIP IS 1-847-259-4100. ASK FOR THE PARTS DEPT. MY SATURN DEALER IN ORLANDO, FL WANTED $ 88.63 PLUS TAX. IT ARRIVES IN APPROX 3 DAYS. I HAVEN'T INSTALLED IT YET.

I have a 2004 with 100,064 miles. I have never changed the filter. I might think about it now.
