Smile Is the RL really fast as you think?

I'm not going to put down the RL I love the car and will be getting a 05 in a month I wanted the lsd on it. Well I know it's pretty fast I drove it but can it really beat a mustang, or a wrx?! I just find it really hard to belive all these post about beating evos, stangs, wrx, and a few other cars makes me wonder whos lying? I can see maybe taking off on a wrx and stopping before the wrx even gets going and calling it a win. I want to know about a straight out race from a dead stop. I can pretty much say it won't win most of these cars but how well will it do?

i am not sure about the truth in these stories but i know i trust alot of the guys on this forum i really have not read many of the kill stories because i know that i want to use my RL more for raceing on at road track but i will drag it. I would say that if they say they have beat it they prob have, but now considering its a 5 speed you have to consider driver ability and also you have to think about the driver ability of the car they are racing, my step dad has a 12 sec firebird and i know im not a great driver, maybe not even good but i know i could beat him if he launched at 6000rpms and just spun for all of first and some of second, and as long as i got a good launch i would prob win, so yes the RL can beat a lot of those cars its really up to driver skill of both cars

You don't need skill to drive fast! You need to push the gas and the car goes regardless of the skill of the driver. Let me tell you put anyone one in a wrx against a RL and I know whos going to win. I never seen and magazines say the RL could beat a wrx but I have seen a srt-4 beat one and people are posting that they beat a srt in there RL I don't belive it I don't care who you think you trust on here!

im sorry but i have to disagree. a shitty driver in an awd car doesnt stand a chance. Last time out at fontana i watched a sti run 15 flat. There is a ton more to driving than just pushing the gas, especially in any type of racing

I second that completely. There is sooo much that hast to go just perfect for a good race. Most ppl on the road do what you say and just push the gas. Those are the ppl we beat most likely. I can see us beating wrx's and other stuff ,but an srt evo or sti?? Im not so sure. But who knows, i played with a lightning and gave it a real hard time!

True. You don't need skill to drive fast BUT, you do need it to race. Especially in a standard tranny car. Shifting at the wrong time, hitting the rev limiter, bad launches etc. can all lead to you losing a race.

As for the kill stories, there are some that I have a real hard time believing but you never know.

The cars are close enough in speed for it to happen. If you give a mustang gt, a WRX and a RL to professional drivers the rl will lose. What was stated earlier about cars getting bad times was correct. I goto the track alot and when someon tells you, hey I ran a 14.2 (for instance) that means they got that once at the track. It was either proceeded or followed by 14.5,14.9,15.4 ect... Most of the people I see at the track have an enormous fluctuation in what they run vs there best run. A guy I know with an 03 mustang GT lost to a Cavalier z24 once because his run was so bad. The Cavvy ran like a 16.4 to his 16.6.

Well all I can say is the power is there but it's sometimes hard to make it launch. But from what I've seen from the mag's if a wrx is running 14.5 lauching at 6 thousand off line,,like somebody lit the fuse of a rocket,, and finish at 95 mph. Now the RL which I'm sure we all can agree,, professional driver or not will smoke the tires so bad that you and the people around need supplied oxygen to breath for the first 50 feet or so but yet run by the mag's 14.7/14.8 at 97/98mph. It's not hard to figuere out our RL's have way more mid range than a wrx (227hp). From a rolling start taking away the awd from the wrx the boy next door is going to get a real nice look of the craftmenship of RL's nicely designed rear wing.

Do you drive fast?? Or better yet, do you drive stick? I guarantee you that if I put one of my buddies, who has never owned a stick shift, behind the wheel of a Ferrari, I can beat them in a quarter mile what an 88 Cavilier. Bounce off the limiter for 2 seconds, and the race is over, go from 1st to 3rd on accident, race over. Theres a million ways to add 5 seconds to a quarter mile run. Read some more of the posts, there are plenty of spots where people go... 'Hey, that's a faster car than the Redline, how could you beat that?' The obvious answer is they're lying, or the other driver sucked. Go back and read my post about getting beat off the line by an Echo. I've been driving stick, and only stick for 5 years. That was my 3rd day in the Redline, and the car was SOOO different from what I'm used to I couldn't even get the tires to hook up. I'm sure when she told her story she left out the fact that it was raining, and I still didn't know how to drive the car right. What would you tell her? That she didn't beat me to the highway on-ramp because her car is a slow POS? When people tell a 'kill' story, there is only one side to the story. As far as the magazines go, which do you read? Because some give the Redline a 7+ 0-60 time, while others have gotten 6.4's. Geez man, you bench race all day? What seems soooo impossible about an under-rated 205hp car, that weighs about 200lbs less than an AWD car (which takes more HP just to turn all 4 tires), with 227 HP? Run the numbers real quick, and what you'll see is that any Impreza that 'spanks' a Redline down a 1/4 mile run is due to driver differences, and launch techniques. Subtract the driver from the equation, and its a hard call, take the two cars to a road course, like I plan on doing, and the performance from the Ion will suprise you. And just for the record, I'd like you to quote me the spot where someone said that they would "beat an Evo". I waste hours on here, and I'm not sure I ever saw that post, and if it was on here, that person if FULL of crap. There's people on here with SRT-4's, I bet they can give me some back up about the skill needed to launch a pocket rocket with FWD. I guarantee you that there are some people out there that simply cant launch thier's woth shit, and some that are perfect at it. Closed minded jerk...
