Smile some interesting power numbers coming from the Stage 2 kit...

was reading thru this article about the Cobalt SS/SC Time Attack vehicles
http://www.gmperformancedivision.com...g_stories.aspx

this snippet here:
The engine features an Eaton M-62 Gen 5 Hybrid supercharger, and delivers 283 horsepower at 6840 rpm and 243 lb.-ft. of torque at 4200 rpm without the nitrous. It is also Stage 2+ equipped, using a smaller pulley than the Stage 2 kit available soon through GM Performance Parts to achieve even greater torque.

nice numbers from the stage 2 kit (note: without nitrous) and some mystery size pulley....

I'm thinking it is feasible that we may see similar numbers from our engines with a bit of tweaking after the kit is installed......
GM's factory tune for the Stage 2 kit will probably be very conservative and rich once again.

OK guys.. There is a reason that GM canceled stage 3. They could not meet durability above 265. So you can beef this puppy to 280+ but be for warned, I here snap crackle and pop and it ain't the cereal...

This engine will last a long time. Its the clutch and other components that are not meant to take the abuse. The engine can handle a WHOLE lot more but we beef up the clutch and a couple of other things (axles) we gonna be more than fine.

Wasn't there a GM Build book that stated that the rods on the existing 2.0 ecotec would not handle more than 250hp? I think there might be some internals that may have to be swapped out before they achieve higher performance numbers - prove me wrong

I've heard the # was 350 to 400 whp before you have to start upgrading the internals. I believe I remember the valve springs can't handle any more. Of course I can't prove anything as mine's still stock, but twincharged has been running probably over 400 hp for a while now, and we havn't heard of him breaking anything yet. I'm not 100% sure his is stock internals, but I do believe so.

hmmmm I am sure the engine should be ok up to 300, R they sure those numbers are not overrated for stage 2. heck stage 1 has yet to be released

how to build a 300hp Ecotec 2.0l supercharged engine
http://www.gmperformancedivision.com.../23/ecotec.pdf

aftermarket upgrades include:
- high-flow fuel injectors
- forged aluminum pistons
- higher spring-rate valve springs
- more aggressive camshafts
- new calibration and controller

You do NOT need pistons for 300 hp. My guess, is I'm pushing 260 crank right now... Schizzo is pushing well into the 270's with the Non-LSJ motor and pistons. I really don't think they're as precariously on edge as people make it. Would I push 30psi and 500 hp on them? No. Twincharged is also pushing well over 300 at the crank.
