k&n intake issue..

im not sure if someone else has had this happen but..

for the last few days my car wasnt whining as much as usual, nor did it have as much get up as it usually did, but i thought it was just a dirty filter. so i go to clean it today to find that the lower joint for the upper and lower tube had comeplete come LOOSE...and untighten themselves from each other. So for like a week ive been sucking air straight in with no filter or protection :S

anyone else had this happen?

Yeah, someone else had that happen. I forget who. I'm sure they will chime in. I remember then saying that it caused some the teflon coating to wear off of their S/C blades.

Do you still have your airbox in or was it removed?

It happened to me as well. I don't see that sucking in unfiltered air for a week or two as doing anything substantial. I just bought a new rubber sleeve that fit tighter and I leave the inside of the wheel well open now so I can check it whenever I want without a hassle.

yeah well i cant take the well out in my car i wish i could, but im definately gonna have to keep an eye on it, and will probably buy a new sleeve and fit it better..

as for leaving the bottom of the airbox in, i just left the portion that they said in the instructions needed to be there so it could clamp properly

ok, this happened to me also. Solution, just get rid of the shitty K&N clamps that can only be tightn with a hex, instead buy yourself some regular 3" clamps at a hardware store so that you could fit a small ratched with small socket (I can't remember the socket size) through the ultra claustrophobic small place they give you to work and tighten the shit out of it, that should keep the tubes in place. Worked for me and saved me a lot of time.
