Actually very few people said they were 'barely beating' a GTP. There was about 2-3 occations, and then some GP owners came running to the defense yelling 'foul' all the way. Go figure....

no, they are at the wheels, just like the redlines. MY dad's 99 SS with 320 crank HP dyno'd 300/312 with a lid and catback exhaust, and that is considered LOW for that car. Catback on 99+ LS1 cars is considred generally to pretty much change exhaust tone, not add much power

If it will help settle this, my dad daily drives a 04 RL that is bone stock, and the 99 Camaro has borla and an MTI air lid. I will try and convince him to go out with me, hit the highway and see how the RL fairs, I might have to grovel though

You own a gtp? if so, bring it. i raced a brand new one with the 260hp to the crank...walked it.
Raced a 98..he got me off the line just because of how cold it was and i spun, but from a roll, i beat it. And i know ill take that car off the line.

FROM A 30MPH ROLL, I HUNG WITH A GTO UNTIL 100. HE HAD ME BY 1 CAR LENGTH. IF YOU DONT BELEIVE ME, I DONT REALLY CARE.

Hey now, don't insult his car, it's an awesome car. Insult him and his closed-mindedness. Funny how these guys weren't even here, someone must have run back and starting crying that these Redline kids are talking smack. If you want to start calling people liars in here, you better damn sure have proof. Which you don't. Bench racing car mag stats does nothing, nothing at all. 1/8 mile runs are worthless, find a real track to race at, maybe even something with turns.

I've 'raced' numerous Gp's, GT's and GTP's. Nothing soild and straightup, mainly 'spirited driving' on the highway with them. I can guarantee you that from 60 mph, I can beat any GTP I've run up to 100. Nope, that's not real telling is it? I can guarantee you that if you run a Redline in a GTP and think that you're the winner before the race starts, you're gonna lose. If you go into it thinking you're gonna have to race right, shift right, and you might win, then you might win. 1/2 the people we beat get beat simply because they think they've already won. They think they don't have to try and they get smoked because of it.

Well my buddy has a 04 GTO and he had it dynoed and it was only 304whp. So I'm just going of that. But you could be right.

I can assure you that if you 'embaressed' a Redline, then he either didn't know how to launch, or something else happened. Are you possibly forgetting to mention that he smoked his tires all the way into second gear? Not to mention that an 1/8 mile track is garbage, all that is telling me is that your RWD and better Diff helps you hook up better. Which it sure as hell should. The original story didn't take place in the staging lanes of a drag strip either did it? Nope it was at a stoplight or something. Oh, and last I checked 'flowmaster exhaust' work on an underrated F-body is worth just a 'couple' of horsepower. On my '77 Vette it's worth almost 50 with the headers. Sorry, not a fan of the 1/4 mile either, I like to drive a car, not just press the gas pedal and shift 3 times. Again, take the chip off the shoulder and put it in the glove box.

So what are you calling B.S. on? Him turning a 9.40(which is faster than some i have seen) or me turing a 8.80(I've gone 8.70s before)?

Hell son, going back to the track this Sunday(if weather permits) I'll be more than glad to post a time slip... And I'm carrying the video camera(for other reasons) and if the smae Redline is there, I'll be more than happy to race him again...

Btw, I love Redlines... I plan on getting a redline or a Cobalt SS(leaning toward it right now)... But, I also know what LS1s are capable of, and I don't see a 210whp car keeping up with one unless it weighs around 1500 lbs...

2900lbs. isn't too far from 3200lbs. so to the guy who called my car a "heavy piece of metal" what does that make the Redline? I mean it weighs almost as much and has 100 less horsepower... We run the same gas and I get 22mpg... So don't hate on the LS1...

I like how I've suddenly become the bad guy, and all I did was pretty much state facts...

More Horsepower + A LOT more torque(345 ft. lbs for the LS1, compared to what 150?) + not much more weight= faster car...

First of all, don't call me son, old man. Do you even know my age or background? If you want to start out with some condescending statemnts you're headed the wrong direction. I'm calling BS on your 'bone stock' car, which is not bone stock number one. Number two I'm calling BS on 'embarassing' a Redline. You don't even have enough time to embarass someone jogging on a 1/8 mile track. How can you even race a FWD on an 1/8 mi track?

Don't tell me about F-bodies, you might know more, you might not. I also know a thing or 2 about driveline loss, weight transfer, Limited slip rears, and one or two other things about racing. Your 300hp is only around 260 at the wheels, unless you're claiming otherwise. Last I checked F-bodies aren't well known for 0 driveline loss, more around 15-20% without mods, which of course you don't have. So now you're talking 260whp to 210whp and a difference of 100 lbs, before we get to the gearing. What is your rear gear? 3.73? Not really sure on that. I don't believe it's a 4.05 like the Redline/Cobalt has. I'm also pretty sure that the autos don't have nearly the short geared tranny that the Redline has. 145 top speed, limited by gearing. So lets recap.

Redline 13.809 lbs/hp
Camaro 12.31 lbs/hp
Not a huge difference.

When you go to an 1/8 mile track, and you figure in the following things however.

Camaro:
Flowmaster Exhaust
RWD
LSD
Driver with 10 times the experience in the car

1/8 mi track winner, no questions asked. Geez, you people are so defensive about the 'hung with' statement. NO ONE SAID THEY BEAT IT!!!!
