Because it's around 10% of the displacement. That's like making a 350ci into 315, and thinking it's gonna make the same horsepower without major engine work.

Maybe I don't get what your're stating above? Because you did say the make the same horsepower. My point all along is that they dont.

Come on now, you know you can't compare engines from totally different years, models, and companies with any accuracy. Honda has 2.0Ls now that are 200hp. My 1.9 in my '02 Saturn was 124hp, if you extrapolate that the 2.0L you have.... well, not much...

Uh, Sp00n, GM made a stock 302 that made MORE HP than a host of their 350s, so displacement isn't the all-ending factor in performance. And that is 13.5% less cu in.

No kidding, you can compare exceptions to the rules all day, but I really doubt that they are the same horsepower from the 2.0 to the larger ones. What stock 302s are you talking about from the 60's? Or are you talking about the special 305HOs that were in some TA's and Camaros? Those were hot-rodded from the factory. Had you built them with the same quality components, dropped the compression to the same as a 350, or less, they wouldn't have made more power. Displacement is the #1 factor in power.

But not the ONLY factor. John Lingenfelter's last ride in a car was that of a small cube engine that went as quick & fast as huge mountain motored cars.

All I ever said was that a N/A 2.0L ECOtec should be able to produce 150+ HP given the proper spark timing and fuel management. To say anything else is just being plain close minded, considering there is no exact formula to predict a given HP for a given displacement. There are too many variables that come into play when making HP in an engine.

yeah that what sucks... All those years, John drove 800hp Corvettes and what not with no major problems... I mean if he would have been killed in a 427TT it would have made a lot more sense... But a Cavalier?
