Sky vs Ion RL

And believe it or not I'm the Sky driver...LOL

First, let me just say pulling an engine in an Ion RL is a PAIN IN THE AZZ. I'm over helping a couple of the local RL guys drop...because you don't really pull...the engine out of one of their Ions. Well, it's discovered yesterday they don't have a 21mm socket for the cradle bolts so the owner of the car we are working takes off in his WRX to get the socket. While he's gone, myself and one of the other guys decide to take my Sky and his RL out for a friendly comparison.

Now, understand, this wasn't to see who'd win but rather to see just how much I'd get my butt handed to me by his car. He's pretty heavily modified for you guys...60lb injectors, some small azz pulley on the SC, tune, yadda, yadda, yadda. Me, I have an intake and a exhaust for a grand total of somehwere around 152 whp according to Magnaflow's dyno.

Surprisingly, up until about half way through second it was close. Then he was out of his launch control profile and began to pull BUS lengths on me. Lovely.

Then as we headed back to the house the road gets a little twisted. I had him pull over and told him to keep up with me this time. He did good...when there were areas where he could catch back up to me with his higher power level...but he was having a hard time keeping up when cornering. Of course, around the last corner I had to give him a little RWD envy by proceeding to hang the rear end of the Sky WAY out and drift around the corner. It was a lot of fun...

...course he didn't ask to run me the night before when I was there in my 12 second Grand Prix...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...LOL Good fun though and thought I'd share with ya'll.

LOL..yea, that'd be me. We went out to Applebees last night after we got the cradle on the ground. We took my Sky and Scott's (I think it's Scott, I'm so bad with names) WRX. On the way back Scott was in my Sky with me and Shaun was driving the WRX. In the turns Shaun was doing everything he could to keep up with me and still was dropping back. What was funnier is just before we got into the twisties a 70s era 'Cuda came up next to him challenging him. Once we hit the turns that 'Cuda dropped WAAAAAAAY back. LOL

Didn't FT just say it took him under 2 hours to pull his engine by himself?!?

I was told that and I just don't know how he did it. I mean, I put my Grand Prix engine in by myself taking about 45 minutes but that was with everything preped, pulling it off the engine stand with the hoist, lowering it into the car, and bolting it to the transmission.

Droping these things out the bottom sucks azz. I'm sure we're missing something but two hours? Really? Solo?

I used to think that dropping things out the bottom was a pain, but after a while, I've come to prefer it. Makes a lot of things simpler, actually.

bingo.. ford does that (kinda) with 250's and up if they need motor work.. they lift the body/chassis off the fram and leave the motor exposed..
