Oh...not a cadillac convertible

Not really a kill but a match of acceleration to about 70. So anyway, we (me and Lucia (the name of my RL BTW)) gave this middle-aged balding weiner driving a $60,000 (?)cadillac convertible (is it the XLR?) a scare. All I know is that I pulled beside him and the light turned green and I did my usual give her some gas and this guy starts juicing first gear so I turn it up. I didn't realize he wanted to "race" and frankly put his caddy way out of the RL league acceleration wise. Anyway so we give it a go and we matched acceleration to 70-ish (I don't look at the speed I look at teh tach) and he had about 2 feet of his hood ahead...I turned it off because of a red light with a car up front.

End of story.

The XLR is a Corvette in a caddy body with about anothe 10/15k tacked on to the price, but I hear they will run pretty well. If it's anything like the CTS-V it's a mover.

He wasn't racing, trust me. I work in service at a Cadillac dealership. Those things are beasts, 320 hp. Wait until they come out with the supercharged one.

The regular XLR runs a 14.4@100 according to C&D, 320 hp but 3,647 lbs for 75K.
The XLR-V is a different story, 440 hp for 100K .

EDIT:I would say that we could almost keep up. Just about like you said. Nice run.

320hp, 310 tq at the crank, RWD, ~3,600 lbs. I believe it. Both would run the same 0-60, 1/4...the XLR might be a little quicker off the line thanks to its automatic, but, in the end...a Saturn can keep up with/beat/stay neck and neck with a $75,000 Caddy. Same old story.

Good run.

C'mon guys, let's be honest.

14.2 @ 101 or 14.4 @ 100. Both according to magazines, one of which is C&D. Their review of the RL was 15.0 @ 96. I know that a few have times below 14.5 on this site, but most are in the 15's. I know everyone wants to say that we can keep up with the XLR, but that's not true. The CTS-V 1/4 time is something like 14.2 also, yet everyone agrees that we cannot keep up with one. I've driven all three cars. I own a RL. The Caddy's are faster, hands down.

It seemed as though they didn't even launch from the light. That would make the RL's traction impairment a moot point. I firmly believe that the caddy had the pedal to the floor and stayed slightly ahead. Quarter mile times for a RWD car within .1-.2 sec and 2mph of a RL wouldn't mangle the RL like you would like to believe from a street start to 70 mph as described in the original post. I think we all know that the mags don't like the Satty and didn't take the time to launch it correctly. My bone stock RL runs a 14.5 and traps at 98.

I agree about the mags not liking Saturns, but how much time do you think they spend trying to launch a $70k Cadillac? To try and say that a car with 210 to the wheels and 320 to the crank will run the same times is crazy, IMO. What kind of drivetrain loss are we talking about here? 30%? Think about it. The people that are buying that car are not really interested in the HP numbers like they are for the RL. I doubt GM is overrating the numbers on the XLR. Haven't we all played with other cars on the road? Letting someone keep close becuase my gas pedal is not all the way down but still winning? Those cars are insane, totally different class than the RL. Why compare them?
