Late 90's (?) S4 - How're the Taillights?

Was driving with my good buddy Vince to pick up our friend Dennis for class today, on a 4-lane divided highway around here, stopped at a light, and saw a nice black Audi pulling up next to me. I look at the guy - early 50's, dressed nice, smoking a cigar. I look at Vince, and back at the guy, and what do I hear - a revv?

Of course, never one to turn down a good challenge, I waited for the light to go green, did my usual not-to-upset-the-tires launch, waited until about 3000 rpms, and floored it. The guy in the Audi did the same; the two of us stayed dead even through 1st and 2nd gears, and when I shifted into 3rd I started to pull, not quite a car length, but close. He shut down about 80, so I backed off, slowed back down to the speed limit, and eased into 5th gear. I thought, "That was fun, a quick Audi." Only when he passed me did I see the "S" badge on the ass end of his car. Thanks for the kill, buddy, come again.

the bi turbo S4s ran 14.1@95mph stock, the new V8 S4s are well into the mid 13 range, i believe there may have been another S4 before the Bi-turbo but i could be mistaken. It was probably the Bi-turbo and it sounds like what you would expect seeing as though you had an extra passenger. Good kill

I was looking at the S4 a while back also. They're a twin turbo 2.7 with 250HP and they're AWD. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't that rob close to 30HP to the wheel?Torque is rated at 258lb-ft. Exspensive to mod but high numbers are easily acheived with a fat check book. The new ones are 340HP 4.2 V8s.

There is another S4 version that's different, I think, than the biturbo that elodaeh is talking about. There's one I've seen at the last two races, it has an older body style, and looks alot more like the less popular generation of Audis. I've not looked at it closely, but I have seen it a few times. I'm not sure about straight line power, but I whupped him all day both races. By a pretty decent amount, 5-6 seconds.

I was following a new one (S4) to the race Saturday, we were both lost, we finally found the place, got out of the car, and I looked at him and said "Man, I was following you here, you've got the standard navigation!" He says, "I don't know how to use it yet!". hehe.... but he was going racing! That's my kind of Audi driver.

I raced a yellow s4 turbo in my cobra and I was very surprised with him somewhat keeping up with me. You could tell he was a filthy rich kid with a bunch of glowing guages and all I know he had though is a blow off valve. Very fast cars.

I raced an advant wagon which is basically the S4 in a wagon version with my WRX. The S4 had an extra passenger and at the time my only mods were a short throw shifter and a lightweighty pulley. I was able to slowly creep away from him from a 20-70mph sprint, i would say i pulled maybe 1 car on him. When i passed him and he shifted i could hear his BOV but it didn't appear to be modded. If he was alone i think the race would have been dead even. They aren't beasts from a roll, but like others have said they can be modded to be really fast. Also like spooner said i believe there was an older S4 and i think they also made an S6 back in maybe the early-mid 90s.

The RS6 is brutal that STI must have had some work done, unless he ran him from a dig, probably at least a stage II STI.

When someone says they have a stage II flash on a WRX, what does that mean elohdaeh? Is that the cobb thingy, or are there several stage II offerings?
