RL v. '99(?) Maxima

Fun race against a '95-'99 Maxima (two gens ago). Only mod I could see was some sort of aftermarket exhaust (not a fart can, but something he might've had to spend some money on).

Anyway, doing about 40 on a four-lane around here, when I see the trademark bright blue headlights of a ricer coming up fast on my left. As he gets closer, I pinpoint it as an older Maxima. So--not MUCH of a ricer

He comes by me at at least 60. Wasn't doing a ricer flyby, but just driving fast. So he gets about 4 car lengths on me when I drop it into second. By the time I hit 60 and shift into third, I'm on his back bumper. Caught up in just a couple seconds.

I guess he saw my sudden burst of speed and he goes WOT.

Well, by 85 I have pulled about 3 car lengths on him. Into fourth and up to 100, I have 4 or 5 lengths on him. Those Maximas aren't quick, but aren't slouches, either.

Well, I back off, as does he, and he gets behind me. A mile or so later, we come to a stoplight, but not able to line up. Instead, he stops near me and rolls down his tinted window.

Two younger kids, who I painted as punks. But they turned out cool. The passenger first said: "What the hell kinda car is that?"

I say Saturn.

The driver's eyes widen. So they asked about my specs, and if I was stock. I told em as much. Driver said nice looking ride, that he thought I was just some Saturn with a body kit (they'd seen me a couple miles before I noticed them).

And we went our seperate ways. And, btw, his car actually sounded pretty damn good w/ his exhaust.

Still getting the word out!

Nice cars but too much weight for the engine. As well the automatic doesnt help much either. That is a decent kill if its a v6.

Seeing how he picked up after going WOT, I assumed he's the V6. And I've a decent ear--the 4 cyl. wouldn't sound like that, even w/ an aftermarket exhaust. Pretty mean.

And I also assume it was the auto, as I pulled hard. I think they have a 5spd, too, and it might not've been such a bad loss for him.

But i was happy they inquired about my car, instead of being pricks

hey SLS, one, once I get time I'm going to take you up on that offer for hte testign of the RL (this weekend?)

and where was this 'race' at? I know/know of a kid who drives what sounds like you raced. Tinted Windows, that year of maxima, decent sounding exhaust that wasn't a ricer, was it lowered at all?

We raced on 28 north. Was a black Maxima.

If there's a nice day this weekend, sure. Drop me a PM.

i used to have an 01 maxima, def not a fast car, but not a slow car, in my cobalt ss, a stout driver with an intake and header (5spd) can stay at my rear bumper very good race

I post rarely on here because I'm always busy.

Today, I saw the rarest car I've seen today on highway 90 near 1942 fm rd in Houston. A 2000-2002 4 door Nissan Skyline, left-hand drive, body graphics, and dual exhaust. He was driving quick so I had to go 90-95 mph to catch up to see proof. Turns out to be a Nissan Maxima with Skyline bodykit with the Impala looking tail lights.

The reason is that one time, I did see a real 4 door skyline non-turbo model in college.

I may have later on have a chance to get an 05 Silver Redline found on Carmax for 17K. Hopefully I can manage to afford it with a low down payment. Currently own an 04 Saturn Ion QC VTi at 24,050 miles. My car is very stable and reliable, it's the VTi I wish to change for a 5 speed. To bad the VTi can't be electronically converted to act like a manual transmission to control its infinite gearing.
