james if you saw how much i spun compared to sam, you would know what i am talking about when i said that. we both spun all the way through first, sam got traction, -- i didnt. then i continued to spin half of second while he was gone. ill admit, i wont be able to SPANK the gtp, but i will beat it in nice weather no questions about it, and if you want we'll put money on it.

Well, they're not gods, but we do have our fun with them.

I'd like to see some Redlines in action around here, but I've never seen any show up at the track. In fact, the only forced induction Saturn I've seen at the track around here is a first gen SC2 with a L67 (SC 3800) stuffed into it.

I wish someone would bring one out, I think they're a pretty nice car. Comfy seats, too.

I'd change one thing, though. Use the 2.2 and put the SC on it. Why they didn't, I have no idea.

No sugarcoating here.
LOL Dude the ony way you beat out a 97+ GTP was if the other drivers were asleep at the wheel or launched terribly. I'm not dissing the RL at all, but the numbers are just not there to justify it.

Supercharged.

I have nothing to gain by lying here. I have beaten two GTP's.

Why is it so hard to believe? You act like I'm claiming to have beaten a Z06 or 911 or something.

My friends was an auto tran. The other guy I raced, I have no idea what year his GTP was but he stayed within a car length behind me the entire time.

I can attest to the "I had my traction control on" excuse. On the Regal GS or Grand Prix GTP, if you spin with traction control it, it pulls timing and MAJORLY slows you down for the remainder of the run. With it off, it actually lets you either continue spinning or just lets you take off like a SOB.

I say if you are a good driver and good at shifting, you should beat a GTP with not too much problem. All GTP's are automatics..one reason i would never get one. I say if you lost to one then you had more wheelspin than you wanted (always a factor), but true numbers dont lie. I say they are about equal.

I agree, nice way to put it without any body getting upset. Allot of people here are very easly ruffled.

They can get ruffled all they want. The fact remains that I have beaten two of them. Whether or not bad driving is the reason, I don't know, but a win is a win.

GTPs have a touch more torque (240 ft/lbs and up depending on the year)than you do and as you say, automatic. Spin is a major concern for us with the traction control disabled... more so than for you, I'd wager. .

As far as you spanking a GTP, there are only 3 ways that would ever happen:

1- The GP driver sucked so bad it was sad.
2- The GP was in need of some serious maintenance.
3- The GP driver wasn't racing but you thought he was.

My 4-door family sedan ran 14.7 hot off the street and 14.3's stock all day at the track after a 45 min cooldown (granted it was a cool day). 0-60mph times were publically stated as being 6.6 but in reality were closer to 6.3. 2-door GPs (lighter and quicker than the sedans) could be made to break deep into the 13's with as little as 3 mods... a catback, cold air intake and a smaller S/C pulley. Total cost: under $500.

Thats all with a car that weighs a good 800+ pounds more than the Ion.

Ions are a nice car, something I would buy a teenage son or daughter. The word performance and Saturn Ion don't belong in the same phrase. Granted most people think the same for the GP. I enjoy changing their minds.

JPK, where in Texas are you? I'm from Montreal Qc, but am going to Texas in a few weeks. I'd love to arrange a meet between a few of the slower local GPs there and your Ion. I'll bring the video cam.
