Exclamation AutoCross in Eau Claire, WI

On September 30th in Eau Claire, WI there will be an autocross held at the Chippewa Valley Technical College main campus. Click Here for More Info

The event is run under the Metropolitian Council of Sports Car Clubs, and organized by the Chippewa Valley Sports Car Club and CVTC auto students.

The track area is very well sized at approx 714' x 500', excellent surface as it was repaved about 2 years ago and well maintained. Course layout done by a professional, very well marked by both cones, markers, and lines. The course and docking areas are prepped very well prior to the event, including sweeping and debris removal, repair of any concern areas, and any other issues that may need to be addressed. Knowledgable veterans and staff are more than willing to help you with tips and instruction, helping those who are just starting out, all the way to experienced drivers.

There will be a limit of 100 entrants in the competition. SCCA rules and reguations are used and enforced, so prepare appropriatly. Karts will be allowed at this event, single riders only, no points awarded, however trophy prizes may be presented.

This race typically has a large turnout, with a wide range of cars ranging from daily drivers to fully prepped race vehicles, econo-cars to exotics, and everything in-between. It's a great race for anyone just getting into the scene with the friendly atmosphere, great course, and lots of help only a car away.

Well most of it comes down to basic 'racing' safety and logic practices. The big things are:

-No Loose Items in Vehicle (sometimes can include floormats except driver's)
-All fluid containers properly secured including battery (no bungee cords)
-No leaks or purging of any kind, they are 'dry tracks' so no sprayers for intercoolers and the like(they usually let overflows to atmosphere go, but they'll get mad if you piss coolant everywhere)
-Pants, sleeved T-shirt, helmet, and no open faced shoes
-Helmets must meet Snell 2005 requirements (auto or cycle)
-Safety equipment must be in proper working order (belts, helmets, and attire)

The only other thing to look into is to see what race class you will be in. It can get kinda confusing at first, but all makes sense once you think about it. It breaks the groups up into classes of vehicles that should be competetive with one another. Click For Official SCCA Rule Book Most of us modded cars fit somewhere in the Street Class(starting on page 72), and fall into subcatagories depending on mods. It is usually best to go in the lowest class you can to be most competitive, which sometimes mean removal of a couple things may be neccasary. Just ask me if you have any questions and I'll try to help.

Yeah I have one, just a basic open-faced HJC. I think it ran me like $85 at a motorsports shop in town. I'd personally not reccomend buying a helmet online w/o knowing for sure what size you wear. You want one that doesn't move around as you shake your head while wearing it, but you don't want one that leaves red imprints on your face either. It often can be a fine line between 2 sizes.

I really like my G-Force Pro Hybrid, and it was only $200. And meets requirements for everything I do- Stock Car Racing, Drag Racing, Autocross, etc.
