The SPC has an upcoming dyno day on Saturday November 12th and members of the IRL/SS forums will be there. There seems to be a lot of buzz lately about the various power claims made by Fujita, K&N, etc. To help provide an unbiased test arena for the GM aftermarket, the SPC has long had a policy of offering free dyno testing of parts. If any of you are in the Chicago area and are looking to make this comparison, the SPC will pay for your dyno passes. If two of you plan to attend, and one has the Fujita, the other a K&N, etc. then we'll do a double blind test on both cars. i.e. run them as they are, swap intakes and run them both again. For Free. You will need to bring the car, the intake and whatever tools you need to swap them in an expedient manner, but we will provide the dyno for free. Please email or PM me if interested..

i'm from milwaukee, might make it depending on timeframe. what if we don't want to do a comparison and just want to dyno with an intake.

do you have an address so i can mapquest it?

The thing is..swapping the intakes RIGHT away would be nearly senseless due to the fact that it took my car nearly 300 miles to 'learn' the intake and actually show some reasonable power gains..I had three dynos; stock, RIGHT after the intake, and then just a couple weeks ago (2k+ miles on intake) and the last one was the highest yet by 3HP..doesn't sound like much, but it's only an intake.

Is this common experience for those of you with intakes or other modifications? If so, do you have dyno tests to validate this? To be sure the playing field is level, were the correction factors and operating temp. of the vehicle consistent through the 3 runs as well? A minor variance in that factor can easily account for the power differences, as can cooler incoming air temps, etc. I've seen 10 hp. differences in runs soley attributatble to air temp and humidity on an S-series with 120 whp. I only mention these factors because we planned to make our before and after runs on the same car, at the same operating temp and with the same environmental conditions in an attempt to minimize outside factors. If there's a better way to test these things, and not have it denigrate into the usual "the computer told me I had 250 whp, so I'm sure I really did" type of thread, then I'm all for it. Any other input or recommendations on how to make the test process more accurate??

The last dyno I ran was actually in a more humid/higher temp area than the first one...so in reality it should've been less than my second run. From what I understand about our setups it'll take the computer so long to get used to the different air flows that the different intakes provide. So whatever the airflow rate is between the K&N, WR, and the AEM (or Fujita if there is an SS there)..it has to make adjustments and I'm not sure how long exactly it takes for those adjustments to be made. My first dyno was the same day we put my intake on...stock my car put down 210ish whp and after intake it put down 218ish whp (not exact numbers..I'd have to dig up the papers), but this last run put down 222whp and I know for sure the temp was at least 5 degrees higher...

What I'm betting would be the best bet would be to dyno a STOCK car..then put an intake on it, then swap for another intake..and not allow the computer to make any adjustments for any of the intakes before the dyno runs. This way it would just be showing what kind of power gains you'd have pre-computer adjustment for fuel and what not..not sure how feasible that is though..

Just a reminder to everyone that there still is space available for
the SPC Dyno Day at TMW Dyno Research in Joliet, IL next Saturday,
11/12. We've got several cars scheduled, including 2 ION Red Lines,
an MG, a Focus SVT, and 2 other Fords.

We're going to meet Saturday morning at 8:30 in the parking lot of
the Motel 6 at I-80 & Larkin, and go grab some breakfast, then hit
the dyno around 9.

I've still got a spare bed in my room if someone wants to come from
out of town.

This is a brand new building and street, so it doesn't show up on mapquest. If you are at the intersection of I-80 and Larkin, proceed South to Moen Ave. Turn right (West) and the first building you see on your left past the gas station on the corner is the dyno shop. The street is Hull Street and they are at the South end of the building.
