Anyone here a visual artist?

Putting out a call for a visual artist -- figured I'd start here, since I spend most of my workaday on here, before trolling the art department of the univ. I graduated from.

My first novel is coming out spring of next year, and the editor is allowing me to do the cover work. He can find someone, but said he'd like to see what I can come up with.

So--I know little about visual art. I can barely draw a stick figure; writing's my game. It would be a simple cover design, and I have an idea of what I'd like in mind. Perhaps someone good w/ photoshop? Not sure.

Can also talk $$$, but it will, of course, not be all that much. This is a small press, and I won't be making all that much off the book. Something to add to your resume, though!

Let me know,

Jon

I am an art major!

I would love to do some work for you.

I have designed three logos for small businesses:

Docs Boxing
Bittner Painting
Koch Armstrong Gen. Engineering
[And in the process] Network Security Electronics Inc.

Let me know.

I am cheep. I do my drawing on the job so it’s not that inconvenient. [I’m at work right now]

Like you said it’s for the resume, it’s all about the resume.

Well, how about I try to write out what I had in mind, and maybe anyone who's interested can post up a sketch or something, and we can go from there?

Title of the novel is "Home By a Sea." It's a sci-fi / horror / drama piece.

For front cover (I'll just do my best to write out what I've visualized):

Bottom of cover: A beach (the Atlantic). Closest to bottom, on the mainland side of the dunes, a small bungalow, set in grass. From it, a pathway that twists between smallish dunes.

On the beach: a man, the main character, only his back visible. He's staring at the ocean. Both he and the house should be small in scale compared to the rest.

On right hand side, coming out from the dunes / beach, a stone jetty.

The sea itself, calm. The setting is twilight. Perhaps 1/4 of the sun is visible above the horizon. Partly cloudly? All the gold / purple that goes along w/ twilight. However, there needs to be a LITTLE night above, so a few stars can be visible.

Also, in scale to the sun, a full moon, perhaps in to top left hand corner of the cover.

Essentially, the focus should be: house -> path -> man -> beach -> sun / moon -> stars.

That make sense? Need any more info?

oh dang...

You better give me a deadline or it will never get dun...

Naw I will get something sketched for you with in a few weeks so you can tell me what to fix/change about it before I make it real good.

oh and did you want it more like a photo or like so moody that its impressionism?

Give me an example of the stile you want you seem to have dreamed up what you want so I want to make it as close to your vision as possible... seeing as it’s on your book it should have your artistic impressions on the cover.

And what about text did you want me to put text on it or are you going to go with something generic? Also if you want me to make custom text do you want me to do the spine of the book too?

I think they can do the text.

As to mood...hmm...I'd think something that looks like watercolor? Sort of a little blurry? I'm not sure. Whatever you think might work, but something with a "creepy" feel.

I’m going to the book store to look at all the covers of the horror/suspense novels...

I think that will inspire me.
