Acetone

Has anyone seen anything, ANYWHERE that has FORMALLY disproved the use of acetone to increase gas mileage? I've seen reports, I've seen controlled experiments for EVERYTHING else, moth balls, little green pills, little purple pills, orange pills, piss pills, etc etc and they've ALL been FORMALLY disproven (the one experiment of a car treadmill made complete sense and has disproved all of these), but has any experiments like this been done WITH ACETONE??

Curious if anyone has seen anything...

And before anyone says it, before you say something about acetone rotting the rubber and plastics in your car, do some research on acetone and the way it's used for your car first. There would be very little, if any, longterm ill effects to using acetone.

I know a friend of mine ran a test on this in his Powertrains class. They proved it had zero to negative effect on fuel milage. Even if this was feasible, i guess I would be worried about it all evaporating before getting burned in the engine. It would seem to become fairly useless then.

Why would you get more mileage? I just don't get that part...

They proved it didn't raise your mpg last night on Mythbusters. It didn't hurt mpg but it didn't increase it either.

I had heard mythbusters did it from a few people, but nobody could remember the results, thanks ;p

This has been discussed here before. If I remember correctly a few people tried it for a couple weeks and found no difference.

I know it's been discussed here (multiple times), but a few people said they were going to try it, but never actually DID lol. i'm trying it with my bike with the next tank of gas just for the hell of it. worst case scenario i waste the equivalent money of a gallon of gas and have extra acetone lying around at home :P

I have a customer who installed one of these gas mileage increasing devices. It was basically at jar that used the engines vacuum to try and increase the volume of fuel/ decrease its density with the vacuum. BUT the whole concept is silly, how much of a effect can vacuum have on fuel that is being pressurized to 54psi or more? If anything, more pressure helps atomize the fuel better to increase gas mileage, not the other way around.
