What is Subaru doing wrong?

A thread to get dl_Rl talking about why the Evo is superior to the STI?
From a purely technical standpoint, doesn't it seem that the boxer engine is better than a standard I4? And isn't symmetrical AWD better than asymmetrical? And shouldn't that extra half liter of displacement be creating a 25% difference in hp & torque (instead of the 13 hp difference on them now)? Is this a case of a good design but failure to execute?

oh yea topic...Subaru is just doing wrong, 'cause they dont have to push any harder, they already dominate that portion of the small econobox/rally car market.

Well Subaru's AWD system is superior to the EVO's most definitely no arguement here.

Subaru's AWD system relies all on the superior design, Mitsu EVO's AWD relies on fancy electronics mostly.

The extra .5 liters makes more torque than the 4g63T when not in boost. It gives the whole driving experience more umph before the boost sets in. The EVO feels slow before any boost kicks in. The STI feels torquey as hell even before boost sets in.

Good design on Subaru's part, failure to execute I don't think so. They have executed look at thier sales. But you can't expect them to go all out on the car it needs to be reliable still, they have a name to look after. Subaru is considered one of the most reliable brands.

Both vehicles have a lot more potential then when they step out of the factory, but they need to be reliable so they can't come with a 20g turbo or a gt35r even if they damn well could of been. But how long would your engine and transmission last? Not very long...

I say both cars are awesome, Subaru is more refined and uses a better awd system but mitsu uses more technology to make up for it's lack in good awd design.

Shabodah, good try man. But I love the STi as well and you can't get me to diss on it!

AND Mitsu installs GPS trackers on ALL their vehicles - as soon as one rolls NEAR a track, the warranty is INSTANTLY voided in the computer system.

Every single EVO owner I've ever met at a track, or has gone to a track, has NO warranty...they're NOTORIOUS for Nazifying the warranty process.

And you thought Saturn was bad...

I agree with you with Mitsu being THE worst company out there when ti comes to the warranty thing and track ish.

but I'm about 90% sure that GPS thing isn't true...

Also the new 2.5 is putting out more than just 13 hp. Stock hp on a pre '06 WRX was around 170awhp, the '06s with that extra .5 liters are putting down 205awhp, and there is a huge torque difference, 175awtq for previous models compared to 235awtq for the '06s. And thats without the azn mod. But sticking with the STI talk, both the Evo and STI are amazing and selling well, don't really have anything bad to say about either. I can only wish I had DCCD, and a 6 speed.
