To My knowledge it is illegal to import Absinthe into the US. It is also illegal to make it and possess it. I did some research on this a while ago. Go to the US customs website and do a search.

From customs
"Absinthe (Alcohol)
The importation of Absinthe and any other liquors or liqueurs that contain Artemisia absinthium is prohibited"

Also try this. Under "is it legal"
http://www.absinthesupply.net/absinthe-faq.html#6
"It really depends where you are. Currently, absinthe containing thujone for human consumption is illegal in some countries, namely Switzerland. In the United States, absinthe is not a controlled substance, but it's sale in bars and liqour stores is banned. It is however legal to posess in the United States. In most of Europe, absinthe may be sold as long as it remains under a certain amount of thujone. In Canada, absinthe is completely legal, and on sale in some liquor stores."

Smithsonian Magazine had a good article on the subject a while ago. Probably ~1 year ago. I suggest finding that if you want more info.

Probably cheaper than buying a bottle is to buy a kit and make it yourself. But yes make sure the kit includes wormwood. I've even heard of people making home made beer with wormwood, having a similar effect.
Van Gough was not the only one to partake... Ernest Hemingway, Oscar Wilde, and Edgar Allen Poe to name a few

I used to drink a lot of absinthe, just to test the "green fairy" theory. It's total crap. What WILL mess ya up is the proof. Logan Fils is just under 140 proof. It doesn't take much until you're zonked out of your mind.

The green fairy myth came from the days of old, when absinthe production wasn't regulated. Instead of grand wormwood, people would put all sorts of chemicals in it. It's the chemicals that would scramble your brains, not the wormwood. Thujone is child's play compared to the Drano they used to put in it.

In Van Gough's case, the alcohol content alone could've set him off. That, mixed w/ the lead-based paints and the epillepsy didn't do much to put him on solid mental ground.

But... if you want to waste $200, go pick up a bottle of Logan Fils. You'll see what I mean.

The absinthe that you can get here in the states and canada and increasingly more places isnt even worth buying, do to the fact that it has no wormwood. If you go overseas to europe or something then buy it, because that is the real deal the stuff they have here has some other type of herb in it but it dosent come close to the real deal. If you want more info check out this page.
