Oil and Gas Prices

I think oil and gas should be regulated like electricity, water and phone. $3.15 a gallon for Super unleaded is just insane. In the mean time the oil companies are making record profits. It's time to put a stop to this bullshit! Post your thoughts. I just think it's wrong.

Are you serious...$3.15 a gallon!?!?!?!

THAT's fucking insanely crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you tell me where you got that, my last fill was $3.55/gallon - I would GLADLY take the .40 cut

I'm hoping things are a little better in FL, price-wise, but I know it can't be worse than here in CA...

It's easy to make record profits when you have record sales. You should be looking at the profit margins, b/c they remain consistent. Then, look at your state/federal fuel taxes, as they account for quite a bit of the bottom line. Then, call someone in London and ask what they pay.

Relatively speaking, $3.15 is pretty damn good (even moreso, since I pay $3.30.)

As much as you can yell and pray for this to happen...it won't. The government has no control of setting up a price floor or ceiling for fuel. It is an international business market and US authority can't govern it. Sorry.

It was $4.05 on the way to Vegas. I just said screw it and started pushing. More gambling money.

It was actually cheaper to call AAA and have them tow me the rest of the 80 miles than it would be to drive, now that is messed up.

Anyway remember (reading about?) the gas crises when the government capped gas prices. There was no gas to be had, lines that were 3 miles long for the station. It sucked balls, actually worse than this, but something has to be done. The whole 10.8 billion profit last quarter for one oil company pisses me off more than anything, but what can you do, we are a country dependant on fossil fuels, and they can exploit that.

Good luck man. Let me know how you enjoy waiting in line for 2 hours to get a tank of gas.

Damn supply and demand. Sucks.

Imagine that.

It costs me $5 a day to drive. Taking the bus wouldn't be all that much cheaper, and not nearly as much fun. I can drive back and forth to D.C., where my gf spends the summer, about five hours away, for less than $60.

Meanwhile, each work day, I probably spend close to $10 on food and coffee, and other random crap.

I've moved beyond listening to such "let's regulate" banter. I just ignore, because they're wrong. Oil companies provide a service. They also invest a lot of money back into finding us more oil. When oil runs out, the free market will dictate that they find other ways for us to scoot ourselves around. They can make a lot of money, if they choose. It is not your right to obtain gasoline.

And, um, since, you know, oil companies actually make a profit--as opposed to say, GM or Ford or the like--they can thus, you know, pay people to work, in addition to letting stock holders have, you know, higher earnings.

Odd.
