How about a 5-1 romping of the Stanley Cup Champs. St. Louis had a hat trick. We've won 4 of our last 5. Go Lightning!!!

hahaa. u call the lightning a team.... they win 1 cup (fluke) and every one jumps on the bandwagon. and where were they last year.. n every hocky fan knows that the east conference is way easier than the west. the bluejackets could win a damn division title in the east... yeah they may have won 4 of the last 5, but they still have 70 something to go.... still early in the season, we'll c where they are in 4 months... BTW, I'm a die hard Wings fan. lived in MI my whole life and I'm proud to say that I was a Wings fan before it was cool to be one... 10 X cup champions!!!

I'm new to hockey, from Florida, living in Tampa, so I root for the Lightning. Call Tampa's cup a fluke if you want, but it got a bunch of people who've never played hockey and don't even know the rules into the sport. As for last year, we made the playoffs with two backup goalies and lost to a better team (Ottawa). I know it's early in the season. I was simply showing some enthusiasm at their current win streak, that's what fans do.

But, anyway, thanks for raining on my parade. If you start a baseball thread I'll be sure to comment on how much the Tigers suck and are blowing the series.

REDWINGS!!!!!!!! will ALWAYS be first (hell we still have our season tickets lol) but we have moved to Buffalo and its really hard not to get into the Sabers (plus we know Miller) The Sabers are young and hungry like Detroit was in 96-97-98 the city is INSANE about them thats all you hear about its kinda hard not to get caught up in it!!! hehehe

I have heard rumors that they have these "other" professional sports out there I guess I will check them out if I get insomonia or something lol

Baseball.....zzzzzzzzzzzzz
NFL......decent
Soccer....... poke yourself with a needle in the eye and maybe you might last through half a game
NBA.......Amateur boxing hopefulls? watch the last 30 seconds of a game-all ya need to do
Boxing......good on occasion...
UFC......Good

HOCKEY RULES!!!!

So - my FIRST NHL playoff experience last night...Lightning beat the Devils...and I went as a Lightning fan, since my Rangers are battling Atlanta right now ().

Anyway, I always said playoff hockey would be the best sporting event to watch in person, and despite a somewhat lack luster fan base (compared to NY, Avs, Boston, etc), it was EVERYTHING I thought it would be...the playoff atmosphere is 2nd to none, I think (although, in all fairness, I've yet to experience any other sport in the post season ).
For comparison's sake, I was at the Pepsi Center the last time the Avs won the cup (against the Devils), for Game 6 (while they were on the road, watching it on the jumbotron) - they won and forced the game 7 back in Denver and went on to win the cup...AMAZING! And right back in downtown LoDo watching Game 7 at Old Chicago 3 blocks from the stadium...and INCREDIBLE experience, but alas, NOT in the stadium with 20,000+ fanatics. My point - those were memorable sports moments, as was the victory parade later on, but BEING there is EVERYTHING it's cracked up to be!

In other news - this BULLSHIT the NHL has pulled with NBC and VS airing the games, rather than ESPN (and their 10 stations...you know, so we see ALL the games), is CRAP!!!

It's because NBC, TSN, CBC and the likes have the playoff contracts whereas ESPN bought the rights to regular season games (with the others still having the ability to air, TSN and CBC are HUGE as they are canadian channels that don't require satellite or digital cable to get) and never had the chance to get the playoff ones (NBC, TSN, CBC and the likes wouldn't allow it).

I don't know when the current contracts are up, but something tells me 2008-2012 should be the time most are up.
