Yeah it was pretty awsome. that picture is not zommed in at all. I was standing literally 15 feet away from the closest car. The sound is awsome. When they are staging they have to give short blasts of the engine, it is like a big thump in your chest.

Yea
the jets are cool! (I never miss the local JC event each Father's Day)
BUT

Did anyone here other than me ever see a genuine ROCKET FUNNY CAR???
They were UN FREAKIN BELIEVABLE!!! (before they were banned by the NHRA)

Basically they are a single stage from a NASA rocket and run on pure hydrogen peroxide.
In 1979 (maybe 80?) I witnessed a 4-way shoot out "ROCKET BLAST" including Chicago Patrol, Vanishing Point and "Fearless" Fred Goeske (I forget the final car's name) , and it was something I have yet to see rivaled on the 1320. On their first side x side pass (which they were NOT supposed to do) I watched the crowd at ground level basically fold over like dominoes as they blew by! The shockwave blurred my vision and seemed to gobble all oxygen in the county. The christmas tree and all of the lane dividers actually all ended up about 400' downtrack from the stage/start line!! Twin 325+ MPH !!
Later that night when things cooled off and the density went up-Goeske set a still untouhed track record at 4.2 and change @ 352 MPH!!

Remember people this was 1979 when the Top Fuel cars were still in the low-mid 200s (Kenny Berntsein's Top Fuel car didnt even break the 300mph barrier until 1992!!)

Like I said it was something I'll never forget and left such an impression on me that immediately started dumping huge coin into my 440 Mopar just to get into the 12s!! LOL
Anyways , get out to see the jets if you can. They wont be around forever either...
WopOnTour

PS> LOL Those people are in for a very big surprize! How long can you hold your breath??!!
