Test drove G6 GTP Today

I was pretty excited when I drove up to the pontiac dealer and saw a couple G6 coupes in the back and that one was a GTP. My Redline is pretty new, but my buddy thought he might be interested in it. I'm not sure I'm too sold on the look. From the back it looks just like a Camry Solara, to me at least. The interior was pretty nice. It had a two-tone leather seats that said GTP, seat warmers, and an automatic. They didn't have it in a manual. We took if for a test drive almost right after they got it in. There were only a few miles on it. All I have to say is, I hope these things need time to break in or maybe it's one of those cars that is fast, but doesn't seem like it at all. It's not a very big car and it has like 275 horsepower, but I was pretty dissapointed in the acceleration. I was expecting it to shame my redline. We were in a pretty busy part of town and didn't get a chance to take in on the expressway, but we both did some hard accelerations when traffic cleared up a bit. It was a fine car, but for almost 30k I was expecting more performance.

yea, I hear ya about the solara comparison, as soon as I saw my first picture of the GTP version I lost all desire to have one. Does the GTP still have the 3.9 w/ the 6spd?

the sedan GTP has 240hp according to the dealer i was just at.

i don't assume the coupe is any different. but 240 out of the 3.9 all NA is good for GM to get, and it'll only go up from there over the years.

i think it's a lot better looking than the solara

Should be fun; I wouldn't mind testing one myself!

Engine 5.3 litre V8, OHV, 16 valves, Displacement on Demand (about the same fuel economy with twice the cylinders! [28 vs. 27 mpg-hwy])
Horsepower 303 @ 5600 rpm
Torque 323 @ 4400 rpm
0-60mph 5.9 seconds (vs. our 6.3s)
60-0mph 119 ft. (a tie!)
Skidpad .89g (vs. our .86g)
No Recaro Seats, but a lot more options...
for about $28K (USD) / $37 (CAD)

Sounds like a pretty good car. Does it come in stick? I may have to con a local dealer into letting me test-drive one.

You can only get paddle shifter on the GP GXP, not the 6 speed manual on the G6 GTP.
