HELP ME!@!#$ Computer probs.

hey everyone, i noticed some of our best RL info contributers were also computer goru's.

so i came here for some help,

i turn my computer on and i get the lights, a sleight hum and no bios, the monitor doesnt leave energy saver mode.

i replaced a power supply about 6 months ago, the simptoms were the thing didnt turn on period.

so i ordered another power suppley and im gonna try that again.

what do you guys think?

the last 2 weeks the comp took forever to boot up, then one day after a STORM it went to a mode where you could select boot options, since its been a dog, i put it to performance oriented settings.

the computer lights up but does not boot.

what do you guys think the deal is? college starts soon and i need my comp.

Fried power supply and the battery is dead. That is a good start. After that I don't know.

I had a similar probem with my company lap top. The connector that you plug power into came off the board and wouldn't power up. So I got a "new one". Canabilized from 3 other machines.

Are you getting the 'error beeps' from the system?

Don't order a power supply yet.

Also, tell me what spare parts you have around the house. Do you have extram RAM, or video cards, or a processor, in particular?

get a new battery for the motherboard or even the mother board could be bad. first things first take and jump the jumper over to reset the bios and remove the battery and turn it on then turn it off after about 10 - 15 seconds then put the battery back in a rejump the jumper back to the correct position. then turn it on. it could be as simple as the bios got messed up after the power surge. it happened to me about 4-5 times.

There are way too many answers without knowing what his exact issue is yet. He needs to answer a few questions before anyone can know what's wrong. I have a pretty good idea, but I need more info from him.

I always unplug my computer completely from the wall whenever I hear a storms-a-comin. I hate the idea of brown outs and my computer being fried...

spooner, my 2 cd rom drives lite up one after the other for 2-3 cycles.

no beeps at all.

(i noticed the little battery in the system, should i replace that as well?)

as far as spare parts, i have an hp pavilion laying around, that has some ram in it, but i doubt its the right kind for my current system.
