Boose's Excellent Computer Adventure

as i have not built a computer from scratch since the old Pentium 2 was in style im a little outta practice. However a fateful trip to a buddies house has sent me back down the rabbit hole. He recently bought out the remaining stock of a computer shop down near his place, it turns out to be mostly boring stuff like shelving and display cases. However there were a few unopened Custom cases, as a result i walked out of his house with an Antec 902 for 10 bucks.

This has driven me to actually try my hand at building a system from scratch. These are the Parts i Have as of right now.

1. Asus M5A97 Motherboard w/ AM3+ Socket

2. AMD FX-6100 6 Core Processor

3. ADATA Premier DDR3 RAM (4 4 Gig Sticks)

I got all this crap cheap, which is good.... because i am a cheap bastard.

right now the plan is to finish up with 2 Asus Radeon HS7770 2 Gig video cards, an Antec Kuhler H20 620 liquid cooling kit, an 850 watt power supply, and Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

If anyone has any reasonably priced alternatives im open to changing the stuff i have not bought yet. Plus no one is actually posting much anymore..... so just whore it if your bored.

Going HD or SSD? Make sure they are SATA3. I see your MB supports that speed.

I went SSD for the OS and programs with a 500 GB WD hard drive for the rest of the stuff.

Yeah I saw I can get a 30 gig SSD for like 30 or 40 bucks, so I may load the OS on that and get a 1 gig Seagate for the C drive.

Get one 7870 instead of two 7770's. About the same cost, better consistent performance, less headache. The 850 Watt PSU is probably overkill, but, knock yourself out.

Ok, so, like, yeah, umm....

Thanks, the 7870 would save me about 50 bucks over the 2 7770s. What size PSU would you recommend?

750 should be more than enough. I bought an 850 for my son and it was so big it would not fit in the case. I didn't know it was oversize until it arrived.

30 GB might be a bit small for OS and programs. I bought a 180 GB and am using 52 GB right now.

Just be sure all HDs and SSDs support the 6 Gb/s transfer (SATA 3).
