To those with subs

when those that have installed subs on the stock deck (i have the 6 disc xm prem sound) how did you hook up the RCA and remote turn on wires? i know the power and the ground so those arnt the problem i just dont wanna fuck up the wires too bad and i wanna do it so IF somethigng does happen then i can remove the subs and all that stuff so it wont void any warranties

I haven't installed an amp to my factory system as I am installing my alpine in-dash monitor next week (although I was thinking of keeping it factory and just adding a sub). The amp is on the rear deck in the trunk right? If it is, just buy an SNI-35 (line converter) and T-tap the rears on the amp to make an RCA lead. Also tap into the existing remote turn-on running to the amp.

If there is no amp, then you can tap into ignition (accessory) as your remote turn on, and still use the SNI35 to create an RCA output. Keep in mind that when you install it like this, the amp will not turn off when you hit power on the stereo, so you shouldn't turn the stereo off, just turn the volume all the way down.

We used to install subs in cars all the time using the SNI-35. It's nice as if you upgrade your deck you just remove the SNI35, and you already have your RCA cables ran. Plus you can adjust the output a little bit with it, if you are getting too much interference.

Butt connectors???

As for the wiring schematic I'm not sure, but could probably find it online. If you can't, you could go to a stereo shop and see if they could print you a wiring diagram for an alarm (some companies like DEI, used to have complete wiring schematics available for installing alarms, etc.) Some will do this for you, other will tell you to take a hike. Best thing is to get at WOPontour and have him tell you the 3 wires that you need. Otherwise time to break out the test speaker and test light.

no no i would have said butt connectors its the one that you put both the wires next to eachother and then clost this "flap" that pushes this metal blade into both wires so it makes a connection and then the "flap" latches on to the bottom side of the ""sandwitch" style clamp.

you need a high to low level convertor thats all. use a regular 2 channel one. tie into the wires at each rear speaker. they may either be red and red/black (or black) at each speaker or the rears will be yellow and brown on one side and dark blue and lt blue on the other side. the brown and dk blue being positive. and if they are red and red/black the reds are positive. you can just tie into the speaker leads either by cutting them and using a butt connector to re-connect them but adding the new extra speaker wire in one side of the butt connector. or strip back a little of the insulation on the brown for instance and then strip about an inch from the high low speaker wire that matches and wrap that wire around the bare spot on the brown and solder it making sure to wrap it really good with tape when done.

when using a 2 channel high low it will be this:
yellow - grey w black stripe
brown - grey
lt blue - white w/ black stripe
dk blue - white

and the other end has an rca to run to your new amp. real easy

or as i said the same for if they have red and black wires. the reds go to the solids like white and grey and the blacks go to the striped ones. since bass is almost always recorded in mono it doesnt matter which side you hook to.
