"FUTURE Driven" Hyundai will abandoning front-wheel drive for its next Tiburon

Due to be unveiled towards the end of 2007 before a local debut the following year, the rear-wheel drive coupe will be a "serious sports car", according to a senior Hyundai Motor Company executive.

Although details are scant, it is believed the Tiburon replacement will be a three-door coupe featuring many of the styling cues as well as the general proportions displayed on the HCD-8 Concept Car, which made its global debut at the 2004 Detroit motor show and has since appeared in Melbourne.

The HCD-8, as it stands, is powered by a supercharged version of a current 2.7-litre DOHC V6 with a six-speed manual gearbox.

However, variations of Hyundai's new-generation 3.3 and 3.8-litre V6 engines are expected to debut in the 2+2 seater sports car, with the latter one likely to be the range-topper.
A supercharged 2.7 V6 is gonna put out a lot of power! Here are some pics of the concept version I found. That is one sweet lookin car.

I owned a 2004 silver STi for two weeks and 1500 miles that I got new for 28k. That car was just a blast to drive in any weather. I took it back because the dealer wouldn't fix a few scratches that were on it at delivery that he promised to. I also watched the manager of the stealership blow up on some guy with one that was trying to get a CV joint fixed or something but was denied because he has an intake, and some guages. They said he was racing it!! I was paying a lot for insurance on it and just didn't want to deal with assholes like that so I told them to fix the minor scratches or take the car back. They took the car back I see a silver one right by my house and shed a tear every time it flies by me. I was going to buy a 2004 Cobra after that but I'm too damn tall to fit right in it. I figured I'd drive my '02 SVT Focus till it died. My girlfriend was at the Saturn dealership looking into a RL (but bought a QC3). She told me the price on the RL and I had the Satty later that night.

I like the current Tiburon but that concept is simply too ugly to make it to market. I like the wheels, though.

I think it's the headlights or the grille, or both, but the rest of it I like.

We rebuilt both turbos, and replaced almost the entire 4WS system on one of those a couple months ago. It cost him a pretty penny.

I dont see that Tibby making it to market in that configuration. Reminds me of the turbo SC2 they showed at the autoshow 4 years before the Redline came out. I know 3 people with Kia/Hyundai's, and all of them have fallen apart so far. Not just little things like the RL either. Maybe they're better these last couple of years, but I dunno. I just can't see them bringing that car to market, in that setup.

When I was shopping for cars. The dealership next to Saturn was a Mercury dealership so I figured I'd go take a look to see if they had any used nice fast cars for about 20k. There was a pushy salesman just HOUNDING me the whole time. Pointing out some ugly BMW or Mercedes which wasn't even close to what I wanted, then a Monte Carlo non SS for more than the redline (used too.), and then he offered up the cougar....Finally the moment I had been waiting for. I chimed in with a "I'd like something that goes faster than I can walk a 1/4 mile." He got all mad and walked away.

Point of thread....I really hate the Cougar. Underpowered, overpriced, not very attractive either. Christ I beat one in my sl2 and that's just not right.

I guess I'm just a Saturn guy through and through. I certainly wouldn't mind a vette or a 350z or anything else in those arenas but boy do I appreciate the sleeper Saturn. Makes for fun light experiences.

As for the Tibby, liked the exterior, hated the fact that it was Hyundai. I guess brand image has gotten in my head a little bit but the build quality (as stated before by someone else) reminds me of Kia and that just gives me the shudders.
