HP Tuners or GM Stages. Which will you get?

HP Tuners or GM Stages? Which will you get? I'm torn, so give me your opinion.

HP Tuners will be out soon, it will give you the ability to fully tune our cars and make custom maps. You will need to tune it yourself or hire someone to tune it for you or someone on the RL forum can make us custom maps and we can use those. It plugs into our OBDII ports, no soldering, no wiring needed! The HP Tuners will be only $499 for the basic kit and $699 for the basic and extra tuning tools.

GM stages are good to go, but who knows if they will fix people's leaning out issues. I'm 50/50 about it fixing my lean issues. After I slap on my 2.8" it may be lean agian. So that's kind of a gamble.

i could just get both, but then that would be kind of a waste. But that would satisfy my appetite for power now..

Well, I'd get both... I mean... of course the kits will fix the lean problems for a while. If you're running lean, but safe now, you have to be better off with the new injectors and the recal. Add the other mods, intakes and exhaust, and you're not gonna be running any leaner than you were with a stock pulley and intake + exhaust.

If you still need tuning at that point, you have more options. You can go with larger injectors and a MAF-T to scale them back. Or, you can go with HP tuners and set it up for the larger injectors and whatever else you want at a later point.

Hey, I might be able to reprogram the ECM next couple weeks, and I just ordered the stage 1 kit.... so you know my choice...

Honestly, I've sold myself on getting Stage 1 - then getting the BF non-slip interchangeable pulley system, almost right away.

Once the HP Tuners program comes out, I'll probably jump on that as well, to "fine tune" the car with the rest of my mods. This, of course, assumes GM's reflash will not completely "accomodate" the rest of my mods. (Only time and miles will prove this theory true/false).

I think once you start throwing Cams and ported SC/Head, etc into the mix, you'll most definitely need to take tuning to the next level with HP's solution.

Lightbulb

Someone will have to try different size pulleys and see how far the GM Performance program will be able to measure the airflow difference with the MAF and use the proper MAP's so the motor runs safe. Who knows, GM may have the program setup so it can utilize a huge airflow difference over stock

soon to have me a '06 RED Comp RL...

I went with the GM stage kit. The HP Tuners program looks pretty awesome but it is beyond what I am planning for my car. By the time I pay someone to tune the car (or dyno time to tune it myself) and buy injectors it will be over twice what I paid for the GM Stage 1 kit.

That may change eventually, but not now. I'm sure I'll be happy with the Stage 1 and 2.9 pulley.

6 weeks now... and no... I just emailed them about an hour ago and told them it's getting a little long now. They build them to order, and they said they were waiting on a part for better fitment...

I'm flowing quite a bit right now with my race header, intake, exhaust, 3.25" pulley. I'm still getting massive knock and I know it's because i'm running lean. I check my plugs constantly and they are always white no matter if I use my 2 stage colder iridiums or my one stage colder ngk coppers.

I don't have a WB, I should get it but i've just been lagging.

I feel like the GM stages will fix most people's lean issues if they have any, but i'm not sure if they will fix mine.

I'm getting a Stage Kit. Prolly end up being Stage 2 and then later on I'll use the HP Tuners stuff to fine tune the car.

that sucks man.

Goodrich has lines that supposely work for the Ion RL. SMS says they work for ALL saturn models.

Stoptech has a set too for $63 for the fronts and $63 for the rears. I don't know if those fit though but PFYR puts them in the Ion RL/CSS catagory of parts.
