Lightbulb Twin Charged idea. Its just an idea but looking for input.

Okay, so there is this GTR Vette C5 at a local dealership and I was thinking...yummm...twin turbo vette...amazing! Then I remembered STS has a TWIN TURBO REAR MOUNT for the C5 and C6.

Then I was thinking of our car and Hahn's dragged out testing on twin charging the RL...what the hell, whats everyone think about a twin charged RL, but with a remote mount turbo system? Its simple as heck to do...lots of tuning and stuff required but its easy.

Get a small T3/T4 turbo in the back, attach an aftermarket 2.5" exhaust onto it, get an oil pump and lots of steel lines to run it from the engine bay to the turbo, have a small custom intake made that attaches onto the turbo (sorry for those of you who spent $200+ already on an aftermarket intake because it would be of no use...post it on eBay).

With the remote mounts it deletes the real purpose of having an intercooler (not like out s/c intercooler but the front mounts and everything) because the short time from getting from the back of the car to the front, the air will be really cooled off. You can put a basic cheap or expensive electronic boost controller on it and boost it up to 5 psi.

I think the hp gains are just sick...the C5 Z06 they have dyno sheets on went from 354 at the wheels to 540rwhp with no other modifications other than the kit, which on the C5 Z06 includes 42# fuel injectors and some other things.

I'm thinking of getting the supplies and stuff and getting a start on it hear in the next two months, but first wanted to see what everyone thought about the concept.

I think if I remember right the main issue with twincharging WAS the tuning, with how cranky the ECU is and how difficult it is to fake out, change, etc that became the problem, not the idea itself. I think.

Interesting idea.

I hate to tell you this, but you're a little late. A guy who goes by "twincharged" on here already did it. In fact, he's selling his car for $18,500
He's pulling just over 21psi and last I heard, 315whp

Didn't Twincharge set up a turbo in the engine bay? This is a different idea, I think. Not sure if Vandy knows that, or not. Vandy -- check out the picture / video section. There's a couple posts about the twincharged RL.

Apparently you didn't read it all...twin charged...but REMOTE MOUNT! Come on, don't tell me you don't know what that is...its in the back mounted onto the exhaust. His is the basic twi charged thing where it is in the engine bay.

Okay, I re-reread Vandy's post. Are you talking about putting the turbo in the trunk?? Bad idea, here's why:
The secret of a turbo's surperior efficiency is that they use energy from very hot rapidly expanding exhaust gases to power the turbine. Not just force from the exhaust pressure, but heat that otherwise gets wasted. The closer you get the turbo to the exhast ports, the better (if the turbine wheel can take it) although some space is need for the cylinder exhausts to merge. Like the end of a header..

The reason the Vette had it is well, have you ever looked under the hood of a c5? A Ls-2 tightly wrapped in fiberglass...

Yeah, the ECU is what I'm afraid of. If anything the whole thing will go blank where the car won't start and it would take a week to reformat the whole thing to where it runs properly.
