But finned exchangers are designed to exchange heat by flow (either air or liquid.) Since you're dealing w/ a solid coolant, you're going to need some airflow for the best effeciency.

Personally, I'd put a filter on the front, and an exhaust fan on the back.

You have to allow it to vent though, if you don't allow it to vent the cooling effect will diminish, will it not? You need that expansion of gas to remove the heat.

This isn't always true, although that is what they are usually designed for. The metal fins will conduct away heat MUCH faster and creates much more surface are for the l2n, or what ever coolant, to contact. Think of them more as heat sinks.

Definitly need a vent for ln2 though, it'cs going to expand much faster, and much more than dry ice

Are you still kicking around the liquid nitrogen idea? Do you realize how brittle those fins will be at -300 degrees?

good idea, I'll talk with some engineers (shipboard) they make liquid nitrogen and oxygen for aircraft all the time.....they usually get atomic power to help them. They will know a great way to cool a gas/liquid efficiently in tight spaces.

for one, it was a typo, it's -195ish, another, metal dosn't get taht brittle when cold, only organics or water saturated items. Plus, they will be suspended, not touching anything, i dont think, even if they were organic, they would get broken!

Well, the coolant shoudn't freeze untill it reaches around -40. I think this might actuallly work, unless there is something other than the coolant freezing that im over looking....

Also, does anyone know the flow of our IC pump, in gpm?

youve gone to far man! i could see doing somthing like this if you have reached the limits as far as bolt ons, tuneing, and whatever other mods are out there... but this seems like a bit much just for light to moderatly modded cars.

well, i plan on going to a 2.5" and some #60 injectors in the next 2 months. Although i wouldnt really concider that 'heavily' modded, a 2.5 is going to generate more intake heat than any other mod I can think of. Also, with much lower intake temps, i think you might be able to get away running a little bit leaner safer
