Filling mounts this weekend!

Hey guys - just thought I'd update the boards w/ my latest project. I was walking out to my car today, wondering how the hell I'm ever going to fill my mounts if they require a 3-day "set" time for the urethane and it dawned on me - this is labor day weekend! I get monday off! So yeah buddy, heading to home depot or autozone tonite to get urethane/window weld and filling 'em as soon as I get home friday night then letting them sit until monday night.

If anybody's got tips or pointers that'd be great, otherwise time for mad torque!

personnaly, I would tear out the stock rubber, and do pure (poly)urothane. It seams like the urothane can tear if not done this way. Just my 2 cents, it iwll work either way

good advice - I'll see how difficult this is to do and may do it as well.

Will be writing up a how-to for this just so we have one particular to the ion as well though i'm not sure how my 2.2 will match up w/ your 2.0's.

at any rate. I was going to go the urethane route w/ McMaster-Carr but am not sure that I'll get the stuff in time (my fault I know) - I know you said you get things really fast from them but I can't really risk it - it's either Next Day Air shipping or chance never getting it done. Plus I dont' know enough about dealing with it, mixing, priming, the gun, etc and the whole thing woudl cost $36 (compound & gun) from their site while I can go to Advance Auto and get Windo-Weld and a Caulk Gun and be done it with for about $18. So I'll be going that route and it seems to work for most people - if nothing else I can tear it all out and do it the other way some other time

standby for wheel hoplessness!

Project underway! Car is currently up on jacks and both mounts are on my windowsil curing right now. I took pictures of everything I did and will be putting together a how-to once everything's all said and done (and I make sure I didn't grossly fuck up)

standby!

I had a good look and couldn't figure out a "nice" way to do this. I was hoping that pulling on the rubber would "unglue" it from the steel but that was NOT happening... I've put the urethane in on top of the rubber as seen everywhere else but hopefully this holds!

I dunno the difference between what you're using to fill vs. what Torque Forward (Rice Eater) used, but I know a few of his mounts have separated from the stock rubber. He's looking into a solution/different material to fill with, but I haven't heard back as of yet.

It could just be an "environment" thing too...the two cases I know of are here in FL - maybe the humidity is a factor?

well if humidity's a factor, i'll probably have the same problem - gets damn humid in MN and IA as well.

My .02 here is that if they do fall out oh well. I just have to spend another $12 and get it done again But yeah, if I can get some aftermarket mounts (which I'm working on) these will be swapped out anyway.

Thanks for the heads up tho!
